I looked at myself in the mirror once more. My brown hair was pulled back in an untidy ponytail, my eyes had bags underneath them, my hazel eyes seemed tired. Well, it wouldn't get any better than this. I left my room dreading the day already. Why didn't my mother leave me to die, another day alive was worse than death.

"Have a nice day at school hun!" My mum cooed from the kitchen. Sure, I would have a nice day. Who was she fooling? Herself? She acted like the whole incident the night before hadn't happened. I wasn't surprised though. She always acted that way. Only one word could describe her.

Fake

"Hey! Fagget!" A boy yelled at me from behind the moment I left my house. He chuckled at his "creativity" and I rolled my eyes at his stupidity.

"What do you want?" I asked with a sigh.

"Won't you give Daddy a kiss?" He mocked. "Oh you did that last night, didn't you?" He laughed, his minions laughing behind him. I ignored his remark and pulled my hood over my head, walking fast. The boys ran forward, bumping into me unceremoniously. My bag fell, spilling its contents to the floor.

"Oops, sorry your highness." The same boy mocked, running after his friends who were busy laughing. I was used to this, I expected it. It didn't make it hurt any less though.

No tears Christine. Don't let them see you break.

I bent to put my things back in my bag, choking on my tears. A stray tear silently slid down my face. Why couldn't I be like the others and just be happy? Why couldn't I have a normal, typical life? I saw a figure bend down to assist me. He picked up my things and put handed them to me. I quickly put them in my bag and stood up, turning to leave.

"You're welcome!" He yelled as I walked away. I snapped, and turned to face him.

"I didn't ask for your help! I don't know who you are, but I would advise you to stay away if you don't want trouble! Cause that's all you're going to get from me." I said, breathing hard. I stared at him for a while. He wasn't anything extraordinary, just slightly tall, with black hair, and blue eyes like the sky. His eyes though, I had to admit, there was something about them...

Whatever, I thought. No point having thoughts like that. I turned back to my path and kept walking, I was late for school already.

"I have a feeling I'll see you again, Christine." The boy said but when I turned to look at him, he was gone.

Weird.

How does he know my name? I was slightly curious, but not so much. I'd leave this world soon. No point bothering myself with unnecessary details. I got to school in fifteen minutes, first period was over already. Was I bothered though? Absolutely not. I made it through all my other classes staying invisible, just as it should be.

I was busy with the lunch my mum had packed for me, alone at my table when someone slid in beside me. No one ever did that, I was the outcast. I looked up, preparing myself for another round of verbal abuses but saw the least person I expected to.

"I thought I warned you," I said narrowing my eyes. What did he want? Was this some type of prank to humiliate me in some way? "Stay away from me."

"I'm not going anywhere." He pestered.

"Then I am." I replied, rising from my seat. He grabbed my arm and pulled me back down.

"Please just stay. I'm here to help." He said looking at me with pleading eyes.

Help?

"I don't need your help." I snapped and pulled my hand away. "I don't know what you're up to, but stop. Who put you up to this?" I asked, suddenly furious.

"No one. Just let me in, Christine." He begged.

"What the fuck. I don't know who the hell you are! And how do you know my name?!" I yelled and stood up suddenly, running out of the cafeteria, not waiting for his reply. I stopped running when I got outside the doors of the school.

What the hell just happened?

I leaned on the wall, trying to catch my breath. I was definitely done with school for the day. I was glad to see that somehow, I was still with my bag. I stood upright, ready to walk. I had no idea where I would go, but anywhere was better than here.

"Hey Chrissy." I had a familiar voice sneer.

"What do you want?" I asked, voice cold.

"Is that how to talk to a friend?" She remarked, eyeing me.

"Just leave me alone Candace." I replied, suddenly tired. I needed a break.

"I'm surprised you're still here. You don't belong here. What else needs to be done for you to see that? You're no one. You're useless. Your life is a waste of oxygen. Your existence is meaningless. You're a waste of space." She spat and walked away, strutting in her black mini skirt and red tank top. I closed my eyes, held my breath and counted to three.

They won't see me break. I won't give them the satisfaction

I opened my eyes and ran. I ran like I'd never run before. But running wouldn't help, it never did.

Eli watched her as she ran into the woods behind the school. He had started messing up already. He didn't handle the situation like he was supposed to. He mentally slapped himself. There was no way he would get his wings if he kept at it this way. He had seen the way the girl, Candace, had talked to Christine and he was bothered. How could humans be so mean when they were created to love? The boys from earlier that day were just as mean. He didn't think things would be this bad. He saw straight through Christine and what he saw, shattered his heart. She was broken, almost beyond redemption. He had to save her. It was more than just getting his wings now.

I will save you, Christine.
