Its been three weeks since my last supply run and I'm running low. I need to go down today and scavenge anything I can find. Before I go the fruit and veg need to be checked. My garden has been going good and its rained a couple times in the past few weeks, so I have a decent amount of water as well. I'm really lucky considering the world right now, I have a good set up going.

Ever since the out break I've been scared to leave my apartment building and the surrounding area. I live two states from my family, when I moved away I never imagined any of this happening. My mum and dad, my little sister, she's only fourteen I'm four years older than her. I miss them so much. I'm scared to wonder anywhere outside of where I am, especially alone. It's a 5 story building 4 small apartments on 1, 2 and 3 and 2 apartments on 4 and 5, everyone pretty much fled as soon as it started hitting he major cities. They listened to broadcasts saying military were here to help and there were camps set up, but I was to scared to move for three days after I saw the first dead one. The lobby is filled with about 25 of them just aimlessly wondering around, I can't clear them alone.

I'm on the 5th floor and on the roof is my garden, I looted some seeds from the store and have containers set up for my water. It's not the middle of summer yet, so I'm getting what I can.

I checked the hall for any life but like usual there was none. I strolled towards the window in the kids play room at the end of the corridor on floor 5 and climbed out of it. I went up the ladder and reached the roof top. I poured two water buckets into my garden and poured the other one into water bottles and shoved them into my backpack and for the fourth I took it back to my room to freshen up with. I sometimes feel greedy, not really knowing what is going on out there and if people have it as lucky as I do.

When I reached my room I set the bucket down and then I placed the bottles of water into the fridge even though the fridge doesn't work, I guess it's just an old habit.

I was making a run so I changed into my black jeans and old green singlet, it was kind of hot today. I raided an old camp store a few months ago that's where I got the black hiking boots hugging my feet. I tied my hair back into a high pony-tail, the sun making the auburn colour shine.

I left my room with a sigh. I never look forward to going out on runs, I'd rather not go around stabbing dead things. I never used weapons or anything before this besides shooting my dads rifle, I guess I just adapted to the little I knew about the weapons I scavenged and tried to survive. Before I knew it I was at the bottom of the ladder, the bottom of the ladder is located between two buildings. I jogged to the end of the alley way and peeked around the corner to find two walkers. Who once were two women but that doesn't matter now looking at their half bald heads and broken torn discoloured limbs. I try not to imagine them and their lives before but it's hard to block that part out.

I snuck up and dug the knife into her head she dropped to the ground and just as I pulled the knife out the other one lunged at me and knocked me to the ground I shook off the pain in my elbow focusing on worse things, her face was torn and ugly, her rotten teeth were snarling at me. I used my forearm to push her weight off me, when I pushed the knife into her soft squishy skull it made her fighting body fall limp.

I got up and took some deep breaths. I placed the knife back into the holster and started to jog to the store. The food store was about five streets down the road, I was pretty safe though the street was very quiet besides the one or two walkers I saw shuffling around.

When I finally reached the store I knocked on the glass doors with the back of my wrist, the glass was partly smashed from looters when the disease first took over. I could see my blue eyes glistening from the sun. Everything looked like the dead's world now, they owned it. I waited a few moments when nothing came to my banging I was satisfied and entered the store.

First I headed to the toiletry aisle and got what I needed, I then headed to the canned goods and grabbed what I could even though there wasn't much left, then I headed to the packaged food and grabbed protein bars and musli bars and anything thing else that was left. I think I'm the only one to loot this store everything is the same every time I return. My feet padded on the concrete floor I took the long way back to avoid the rotting smell of the old fruit and meat that was well past it's time.

I checked my watch and it was only noon, I still have a lot of sunlight left. bored with my own thoughts I jogged out of the store with my heavy backpack weighing down my shoulders. My boots crunched on top of the already broken glass shards. The sun shined down and I could feel it dancing on my freckled cheeks.

One lone walker stumbled in the middle of the hot lifeless road. I could see the heat waves and my skin was covered in a thin layer of sweat. I slowed my pace not looking forward to catching it's attention.

But as soon as it turned around my eyes first squinted I held my hand up to my forehead blocking the sunlight, my eyebrows furrowed and I stepped back a little with confusion. My heart skipped a beat, my eyes threatened to prick with tears, but most of all my heart developed an ache of pain.
