Whats happening to the Shinsengumi?

Ekō POV

Lying in my bed, I thought of the devil I saw in the courtyard. Crawling over to my wall, I sat close to it, "Hey Souji? You awake?" I asked.

"Yeah, I can't sleep." He mumbled through the thin wall. "What was that thing?"  He said and I heard him shuffling about. My door opened and he came and sat beside me.

Setting my head on his shoulder, he hugged me. "Are you sure you okay?" He asked but I shook my head. "Not really, it was scary. I recognised that Devils face. He looked like one of the shinsengumi warriors only...insane." I chuckled and Souji did too.

"Why don't we go back tomorrow and ask?" He offered and I nodded yawning. He kissed my forehead lightly, "Go to sleep and don't worry. Your Saito and all of them will be fine." He said, his deep brown eyes glinting in the dark. "Thank you Souji, your the best brother in the world." I hugged him and he left.

In the morning, I woke up and got dressed, leaving my hair down. It fell three quarters down my back and placed my short sword on my hip.

"Morning father!" I said running up behind him and hugging his waist. He laughed. "Good morning Ekō-chan, are you coming to the shop today?" He asked.

"Souji and I are going back to see Saito and Kondo-San." I smiled and he nodded. "Alright but be back before sundown and stick together. This city isn't the safest." He said worriedly. "Don't be such a worry wart, but okay."

Running back down the hall I opened Soujis door. "Souji! Get up!" I pulled at his arm and he groaned. "Just a little longer...." He sighed and I huffed. "I will chop all you hair off," I said and clicked open my short sword. His eyes snapped open and he scrambled backward.

"Not again!" He yelled and took off out of the room, still in his night wear.

"Hey! Get over here! Your fringe needs cut anyway!" I laughed and chased him. "Dad! Help!" He yelled and I laughed. "No one can save you now!" I leaped onto his back and he screamed.

"AH GET IT OFF SHES GONNA KILL ME HELP!" He screamed and spun around, shaking trying to throw me off. "I'm a damn monkey!" I laughed and slid off his back.

"Okay okay I'm done," I said inbetween laughs. "Woo, okay. Go get dressed I wanna leave as soon as possible." I said and he hid behind the door. "Crazy." He mumbled.

"Hey!"

I heard him laughing as he walked down the hall. After eating a nice breakfast Souji was still eating so I went into the garden and trained for a bit. The cherry blossoms haven't bloomed yet, that's always my favourite part of the year or snow. I like snow.

"Ekō come on!" Souji called and we ran out of the house and began walking the road to town.

"Hey Souji! Ekō!" We turned to see a group of boys running towards us. I waved. "Hey Eiji, Gorou and Arata. What are you guys doing here?" I asked. "We were going to see if you guys wanted to come train with us. Your dad told us you already left so we ran to try and catch up." Eiji said.

"Also Arata wanted to see you." Gorou nudged him and Arata blushed. "Gorou..." He said embarrassed. I smiled looking at my feet. "Oh, that's nice..." I said awkwardly. I've kinda had a crush on him for a few months now....

"Anyway.....Ekō and I were going to see her, I dunno friends I guess?" Souji said and I shrugged. "'More like brothers and uncles but yeah." I grabbed Soujis arm and pulled him along. "So come on!"

We all ran along, Arata and I being the fastest raced ahead. "So you wanted to see me?" I asked as we ran along. His face went pink and he nodded. "Y-yeah, is that okay?" He asked and I smiled. "Of course it is, as long as you can keep up!" I laughed and jumped ahead.
