I wake up to my phone ringing. I look at the time and it's 2:03 am. Who would be calling at this time? Maybe Doctor Arkham to tell me that one of the patients has gotten out of control again and he needs me there, right away. I sigh and pick up the phone.

"Doctor speaking," I say tiredly into the phone.

"Harl!" Selena says from the other end of the line.

"Selena, why are you calling me at 2:00 o'clock in the fucking morning?" I reply tiredly.

"I'm locked out of my apartment," she says calmly.

"Well what am I supposed to do about it?" I say, completely annoyed.

"I was hoping that you would let me stay in your apartment."

"Fine," I say, not willing to fight with one of my best friends at this hour.

"Great! I'll be up in a minute," she replies happily.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where are you right now?"

"In your lobby."

"Let me guess... You planned this whole thing out before you called me."

"Yup! You're never gonna put up a fight at two in the morning," Selena says then hangs up the phone.

I roll out of bed and sigh. This is going to be great... Just great. I walk out of my bedroom and over to the door as Selena rings the doorbell. I open the door and glare at her.

"What's wrong, sleepyhead?" Selena asks sarcastically as she walks in.

"You woke me up at 2:00 in the morning just to-"

"Let me into the apartment on a work night. Yeah yeah yeah. Get over it and go back to bed. I'll take the couch," she says as she plops down on to the couch.

I sigh as I walk back into my bedroom. I lay down on the bed and pull up the covers. I rest my head on my pillow and close my eyes.

"GOODNIGHT HARL!" Selena yells.

I sit up, startled by her yelling; then again it's Selena. She always opens her mouth at the wrong time and doesn't know how to shut the hell up. I wish she did, but no one's perfect...

"GOODNIGHT SELENA!" I yell back to her, returning the favor.

The apartment is quiet now, nothing makes a sound. I lay back down and pull up the covers. I close my eyes and think about the day that lays ahead. I think about my patients, and who will be treating the Joker. I know it won't be me but I hope it will be. And with that thought I close my eyes and drift back to sleep.

I wake up to my alarm clock ringing. I shut it off quickly. Some days, like today, I wish I had a baseball bat to pound that godforsaken thing with. I get out of bed and go into the bathroom. I take a hot shower. I get out and get dressed. I walk out into the living room to see Selena still sleeping on my couch. I smile, a part of me wishs that I could still be sleeping right now and another part wants to be awake and go to work. I grab my keys and slip on my black high heels, then leave.

I walk downstairs to the parking lot and search for my car. Once I find it I walk over to it and get in. I start the engine and drive out of my building's parking lot. On a good takes 20 to 30 minutes to drive to the asylum and 40 to an hour day it on a bad day. I drive and look at the streets. I see children splashing in puddles that the fall rain is making. I look at the people rushing down the streets, trying to make it to work on time.

It's not long until I park in Arkham's huge staff parking lot. I get out of my car and scurry into the main building. I scan my ID card and open the door that leads to the elevator bank. I press the up button and wait a few seconds before it comes. The doors slide open and I walk in then jab my finger into the 5th floor button. The doors open at the 5th floor and I step out of the elevator. I walk over to my desk and to my surprise there is a single bright red rose in a small vase. I look at it for a second and see that a small tag is attached to the rose.

"Come see me soon so we can have a little chat - J" I read out loud.

I shake my head and let out a small giggle. It couldn't be him; he's only been here for one night. He couldn't have gotten out of his cell that easy; but then again, no one on staff's name begins with a J except Doctor Arkham, but he has a wife and two kids so it couldn't be him. It's not him and that only leaves the Joker as the only candidate that I can think of, but no one has ever gotten of out of their cell on the first night, then again the Joker isn't like any other patient that we have here at Arkham. I sigh and wonder what the Joker would ever want to do to me. Maybe he's just trying to mess with me. Yeah, that's got to be it, he's just messing with you Harley. All he does is play mind games with people and blow up the city. For what purpose must he blow up half of Gothlem, I do not know. But the real question is, will I ever find out.

I sigh and look at the time, it's around 8:10 in the morning right now. I wonder if I should actually go pay the Joker a little visit. The nightshift guards should still be on their shift because they make the switch at 8:45 and it's 8:12 right now so I should be able to go pay the Joker a small visit. I walk out of the office and to the elevator bank. I press the up button and the elevator comes almost immediately. I step in and press the 6th floor button. I walk out of the elevator and walk down the corridor, searching for the Joker's cell. I find his holding cell and take a deep breath before I open the door. I rest my hand on the door handle and then take another breath as I open the door and walk in.
