Set the scene two months later. Two months of agonizing pain and training. Seth and I have both become rank A's. Yeah, yeah, I skipped a rank. But I have improved and become one of the best and fastest improved Keepers in the damn place. The only thing that has been able to take my mind off losing Miller is training. So I guess that led to me skipping rank B entirely.
Since headquarters hadn't been able to replace the fallen members on our team, Seth and I haven't been on a mission since... Yeah. That one mission. But now, as we walk towards the front office, it feels as if my body is slowly filling with rocks as I move. I don't want a new team. I want Miller. I wish I could just hug him again. But as I feel heavier and heavier as I move forwards, I know that can not and will not happen.
Because wishes don't come true. Dreams just exist to remind you life sucks, and good things don't last.
We enter His office. A girl stands there and I notice Seth unable to remove his eyes from her. Her blond-ish hair is pulled tightly back into a low ponytail and her leather jacket is reflecting light like nobody's business. She wears a bit of makeup and she is probably a few inches taller than I am.
Meanwhile my hair is pulled into a high pony tail, I wear a olive green shirt and jeans with my trademark, destroyed black converse. Seth is wearing a black t-shirt and basketball shorts with high-tops. His hair isn't brushed and he looks tired. He and I together are nowhere close to how put together this girl is.
I lean over and whisper to Seth, "I am literally the shortest Keeper, in the history of Keepers." I say and he laughs at me. I see the other girl stifling a laugh. I only meant for Seth to hear that, great. So she also has insane hearing abilities. I can't wait to hear what this girl specializes in, fighting wise.
Suddenly a guy runs in, clearly rushing. "I, I am so so sorry... I kinda forgot how to get here." He says, out of breath. "Thanks for finally joining us, Leo." The general mutters, turning his chair to face all of us. We all tense a bit. "Cat, Seth, meet your new teammates. Amelia is a rank B, we had to switch her from her team because there were some... Issues. But she is back and on your team. She will replace.. Well, Rachel. She is a tech super genius." He says, and Amelia nods. Seth just keeps staring at her.
"And you already know Leo's name. He is a rank C, a few weeks ago he was a D but we had to train him so he could actually be of use to your team. He will replace Cat with backing up the leaders." He says. Leo nods and I catch his eye. I didn't actually get to look at him when he walked in, but he is about 5"9' and thin. His hair is a light brown and cut military styled, he is wearing basically the same thing as Seth. But his eyes have this light green color about them and I find myself unable to look away.
He flashes me a smile and turns back to the general. The General continues, "The new team leader will be Cat. She will train you both with the help of Seth." I suddenly interrupt, "Sir, Seth has been a Keeper much longer than I have and deserves the leadership position." I say. "Yes he is a more experienced fighter, but he doesn't have the instincts you do. He is a better follower." He says, I look down.
"Ok," I say. I look at Seth apologetically and he half smiles back. "Thank you General." I say. Amelia and Leo look at each other for a moment. "Wait... You are Cat Aldaine." Leo says almost star struck. I blush a tiny bit. "Yeah, I am nothing special though." I say quickly. Amelia laughs, "Yeah, sure. Nothing special. You saved that guys life, and survived the impossible. You also are the fastest ranked leader." She brags for me, but I suddenly feel upset. "In the end, nobody is ever saved. Never let your guard down." I say, anger brushing my tone.
She looks down, the general coughs. "Seth, take your new teammates to the room. I need to talk to Admiral Aldaine." He says and I cringe. That is what my dad was called, and now I could carry the same fate.
Seth, Leo, and Amelia leave and I turn to the general. "You know, that was smart. Don't make them worship you, make them respect you." He says, and I nod. "You do realize, you have a decision to make, Admiral." He adds. I look at him questioningly, "Sir, what do you mean?" I ask.
"Magic, or heavy weapons? The choice is yours. You are small, and quick. So heavy arms could weigh you down, but magic is a responsibility and none have had the capacity to learn and handle it. We can take out Keepers who don't know how to posses the power." He says, a stern look on his face.
I remember Miller telling me something about magic, I cringe again. Remembering him hurts. But it might have been his hint to choose... "Magic." I say. "Alright. You are the 5th person to choose this, even knowing you might lose yourself. Nobody else has succeeded." The General adds, sighing. I hear someone walk in behind me and I feel a needle go into my arm. My knees give out and I fall to the ground.
"W-what a-are you do..." I trail off as everything goes black.

My eyes fly open and I sit up, instantly recognizing the hospital room. A nurse runs in. "She is awake!" She yells, smiling and running in. The feeling of power surges through me but I don't act on it. "We were beginning to think you would be the fifth that was taken down by the magic! B-but I knew you would be the first. I just knew your brain could master it." She rambles on.
"But I haven't even trained..." I say. My voice sounds perfected, I stand up. My old clumsy way of moving is gone and I swiftly stand behind the nurse. She turns to face me and jumps back. When I catch a look of myself in the mirror, I need a double take.
The part of my eye that used to be a chocolate brown is a lit purple. My skin is a perfect color instead of the blotchy mess it used to be and my hair lies perfectly down my back. I remain in the outfit I was in before though.
I feel the general walk in... Wait.... This is all so confusing. "What is happening?" I ask. "You mastered magic. It is all in your mind, so if you need it, you will use it." He says. "Now go to your room, see your team." He says, and I just leave. On the way out a nurse hands me a pair of sunglasses. "The press won't even know it is you if you run." She says and I put them on.
I sprint through halls all the way across the base. When I get to the room I just use my mind and the door opens. I am taken aback for a moment, but I rush in. "Seth?" I call out, my voice sounding prettier than before. "Cat, it that you?" I hear him say and his door opens. I smile and the front door closes with just a flick of my wrist. I take off the sun glasses and Seth runs over. He hugs me, "We thought you lost... It has been two weeks." He says.
I feel bad, Amelia walks out of her room and just stares. "I am sorry." I say, finding emotions is more difficult then it was before. I can't seem to remember much from before, I just remember Seth and... I feel emotionless tears fall down my cheeks as I remember Miller. I notice Leo walk out of his room and the tears slow a bit as his eyes link with mine
She is alive... Oh my god, should I hug her? No, She doesn't even really know me. I wish she did.
I leave the hug, and look into Seth's eyes.
Thank God she is ok, I can't be stuck with Leo and some other new kid. I would at least have Amelia.
Then I turn to Amelia's eyes.
What will she think when she finds out about Seth and me. I am pretty sure she thought of Seth as a friend...
"I am fine Seth, and it is ok Amelia. He is all yours. Leo, I do know you exist. And I will get to know you, I promise." I blurt without thinking. Seth's mouth hangs open. Amelia smiles with wide eyes and Leo blushes.
"Now everybody go train, I know that we will have a mission tomorrow." I say, they all leave. I, on the other hand, will never need training again.
WHHHAAAATTTT?
Yeah, I know.
Sorry for the short chapter. Also sorry it was a tad rushed, if you have any questions message me! I will update again soon!! Love you all!
