Do not think of Sunnah as oh it's just Sunnah I don't have to do it. The same way you shouldn't do something that is disliked because it's not Haram.
Sunnah- Think of everything that is Fard as a cake, it's delicious and you love it. Now think of the Sunnah as the frosting, fruits, and other cake decor; now the cake has been made even more delicious and more pleasing.
Makrūh (discouraged)- The Haram is like a black hole once you enter it is almost impossible to get out. When you get near this black hole you obviously will be sucked in. Doing acts that are discouraged is a very easy way to fall into the black hole. Because once you do one Makrūh act then you tell yourself oh this is okay, oh this isn't so bad, etc.. You need to tell yourself I know where that black hole is headed so I need to stay as far from it as possible. InshAllah.
