Today I was at the masjid and a Christian lady came in interested in Islam. I came in for the maghrib prayer and had already missed one rakah, I saw that this lady was participating in prayer. She does not know how to pray nor does she know that when you pray you wear hijab and long sleeves (she was wearing short sleeves), seeing this I only felt proud and happy that she was trying to learn and praying along side us out of respect. When the Salah finished I got up to pray the one rakah I missed and in the mean time an older lady started talking to her telling her things like "it is not acceptable to pray in what you are wearing" "your prayers won't be accepted this way" and apparently during prayer the Muslim lady was trying to point that out to her as well! It should be very obvious just be looking at her praying that she isn't Muslim and she's just trying to learn! As soon as I finished praying maghrib I quickly went up to them and pulled the lady aside and tried to get her to completely ignore the rudeness of this older Muslim lady.

Is her not wearing hijab while practicing to pray something so bad that you would be rude to this lady and could possibly completely turn her away from Islam?! It is so shocking to me, how is hijab more important than having correct belief?

When the Prophet (SAW) would send someone to teach Islam he would tell them to teach them of the oneness of Allah and to not teach anything else until they have understood this, after they understood this then you continue on teaching them about Salah, Sawm, Zakah, Hajj, and other aspects of the religion. Hijab wasn't the number one priority, Tawhid is!
