Ashton is really great! The conversation is easygoing. He can't make me laugh, not today... I can't believe it's been two months. Two months! Without a dad or a mom!

"Do you want to talk about it? What happened with your parents?" I take a deep shaky breath.

"One night, Mila took me to a football game. It was my first football game and it was so much fun! Our team won so we went to a party after. We got home just before curfew (11:30) so we went straight to bed. We woke up on Saturday and our dad wasn't cooking. Every Saturday he woke up earlier than all of us and made pancakes and waffles. We walked into their bedroom and saw Lisa wasn't home. Dad was white as a sheet and wasn't moving."

Ashton gasped. He stays silent though, so I continue. "Mila called 911! and they came. They asked where our mom was. We had to call her and you could hear the rustling sheets in the background! She came home and drove us to the hospital. They filled us in and told us two months... Happy two months dad" I finish weakly tears in my eyes.

"Holy crap Maddie, that's intense. I'm so sorry. Who do you live with now?"

"My stepmom and stepdad. The day dad went into a coma she came home with a guy. His name is Brian. He seems nice, but he tries to hard. He tries to buy our trust. What about you? What's your story? Other than you being super popular, I don't know that much about you."

This made him laugh. Like, more than normal. Weird... "Well... I have a sister?"

Wow he really is not good at this! "Okay, I'll tell you more. Take notes."Not you reader, don't be a creeper. He laughed. Again, hysterically... "My only sibling is Mila, I have a bunny, and I play piano and sing... A little. And the answer is no. I won't sing for you."

"Damn. Even if I beg? Fine my turn. I have one sister, one brother, one chinchilla, and I play guitar."

"Chinchilla! The all powerful jock Ashton! Has a chinchilla!" I giggle. I can't picture him holding a chinchilla. Then I remember the pet I used to have. "I actually used to have a goat," I say bashfully. He flashes me a grin.

"I'll cut you some slack," he says somberly. What changed? We were just laughing and talking. Then I see the sign. Lakewest Hospital. We're here. Suddenly it hits me. It seems all too real. My dad. I don't even realize the tears until sobs are racking my body. I was always the strong sister. The calm sister. Dad saw me for who I really was. Oh dad! Two arms wrapping around me break my trance. Ashton. I have to be strong. For dad, for Mila, and for Ashton. I breathe in.

"All right. I'm ready. Let's go."

I almost don't catch his words but I do. I know I shouldn't have heard them. Under his breath he had whispered,"Damn, this is taking longer than I thought. I might have to call Micheala. Tell her not to come over till after 11." There goes my strength. The wall is crumbling. No I have to be strong, I bite my lip, clench my fists, and walk inside.

"Jake Piko please," I say to the nurse. Her mouth opens in sorrow a bit.

"Room 203 Hun. I'm sorry for your loss." I smile gratefully and nod my head. I try to mumble a thank you, but I can't. I walk up the halls that I walked up every day in the beginning of this roller coaster ride. I was naïve and thought he would wake up. I then overheard the doctors. There first words were, 'there is no hope for him. We just need to keep him for the family to cope. I ran out, came in the next day and explained the conversation. I steel my shoulders back. Then I knock the secret knock. Mila and I should be the only ones in here. The door clicks open. I take a deep breath and walk in.
