Chapter Four
"I'm going out!" Maxine shouted to her roommates as she hustled to get to the door. It was almost noon. Maxine was avoiding all eye contact. Even after three days, she hadn't gotten over...the incident.
"Wait!" Tyler's voice yelled. Maxine stopped and slowly turned to face him. "I'm doing laundry today. So, leave your basket by your door and I'll take care of it for you." He offered. The brunette let out a huge breath. He wasn't making fun of her as Trent had done for the last couple of days.
"You do everyone's laundry?"
"No, but since this is you're new, I'm going to take care of it. We all do our own at the same time. Since you're going out, I'll do it. It'll make it easier to sleep without the washer going on." He joked. Maxi smiled at him grateful and headed back to her bedroom. She placed all the clothes into the basket before she attempted to leave. She managed to make it out of the door and to Melanie’s car with no problems.
"Hey," The bubbly blonde greeted. "how's my best friend? A.K.A. the winner of the wet T-shirt contest." She asked, suppressing a laugh. However she didn't hold it for long.
"Very funny." Maxine replied, shooting her a look. "It's dying down. I mean, Trent and Michael must sit down and write up jokes that they can use." Melanie turned up the radio as she started to drive off. The girls spent the afternoon pampering themselves. It was much needed for Maxine, and shopping for some new, less transparent when wet, pajamas were a must. She wasn't going to risk something like that again. That kind of embarrassment should only happen once...

Jason took deep breaths. He was currently down in the laundry room with Trent. In his mind, he was working up a way to ask about Maxine without offending Trent. So far, no luck. He could be a man and just ask him, but wouldn't Trent snap because of Jason's knowledge of Tammy? He was sure of it. However, that was the only choice he had.
"So, what do you think of Maxine?" He questioned after clearing his throat. Trent simply shrugged his shoulders.
"She's cool. Kinda different, but I guess that's what makes her nice." Trent's answer confused him. Did that mean he liked her? He had said she was different, but he'd also used the word cool. So...what was the true meaning?
"Does that mean you like her?" Jason asked once more, almost nervous of the answer. If Trent had his eyes set on her, there was no way Jason would ever see a night out with her. His friend stopped folding his laundry and looked up.
"There's an attraction, but I'm with Tammy. I wouldn't cheat." There it was. It was an 'attraction' as he put it. That's all he needed for him to know it was time to move on. "Look Jay, if you're worried about me and Maxine hooking up, don't sweat it. We're friends. Plus I highly doubt she wants to date someone who's been calling her the 'wet t-shirt queen' for the past 72 hours." He joked. Jason let out a laugh. Was Trent being serious or just trying to make him feel better?
"Thanks man." Tent smiled, but never really looked at his friend.
"Anything else you want to ask while you're interrogating me?" Although Jason felt he was perfectly fine with these questions, he wasn't. The blue-eyed boy new exactly what was going on. Jason was after Maxine, and that angered him. He would never admit it to anyone's face, but he'd been crushing on her ever since the day they were washing dishes.
"Well, how do I get Maxine to take some sort of interest in me? I'm pretty sure that the only thing she knows is that my name is Jason." Trent chuckled.
"Jay, just be yourself."He advised.
"Sure, you mean nervous with a dry humor?" Trent looked at the desperate look on his friend's face.
