Chapter Two
Trent and Tyler Hamilton rounded the corner. They had been out for the past hour and a half for their morning run.
"So, what do you think of Maxine?" Tyler asked his best friend.
"She's...quiet?" Trent shrugged. He didn't have an exact opinion of her yet. The girl hadn't really said a word in the 48 hours that she'd lived in the house.
"Well, yeah, but she's really cool. I came home from my study time, and she was playing our games." Tyler stated.
"Seriously?" Trent questioned.
"Yeah, and it was a Call of Duty at that. She wasn't half bad either." He replied as he wiped the sweat from his head. He'd never known a girl that was into video games, and was good at them as well.
"Let's finish up. I'm supposed to meet Tammy." The boys rounded the last corner of their route and jogged up the steps. "Do you smell that?" Trent questioned as the smell of bacon and pancakes hit his nose.
"Yes! It smells good." Both males entered the house. Trent instantly stopped at the sight of Maxine McCarthy in the kitchen. It wasn't that she was pouring orange juice into glasses. It was the fact that she stood there with short green shorts, a white Tinkerbelle tank top, and bright green fuzzy slippers on. Her curly hair was in a messy bun. It was absolutely adorable. His thoughts were broken as Tyler collided with him. Maxine snapped her head up and placed the carton on the table.
"Good morning!" She said smiling brightly. "I hope you're hungry." Her eyes locked with the tan, muscular male in front of her. A smile crossed Trent's face.
"Nice Pj's." He smirked. Maxi's cheeks flushed pink. She'd forgotten all about her current appearance. "I mean it. Of course, I'm a bigger fan of Peter Pan."
"Really? And here I would've pegged you to be the bad boy. I thought Captain Hook was more your style." She didn't know what came over her. Had she just flirted with her roommate? This wasn't good. "I made breakfast. It's sorta like a thank-you."
"This is awesome!" Tyler said from the table. The two were so caught up in what they were doing, that they didn't even notice he'd slipped away. "I haven't had breakfast this good since my mom came to visit." Maxine laughed. Once again, Trent smiled.
"I'm glad you like it. Aren’t you going to have anything Trent?"
"Yeah, I have to taste it. I trust Ty's taste buds." She giggled. "Join us?" When she nodded, Trent walked over to the table and pulled out her chair.
Blushing, the girl replied, "Thank-you." Trent took his own seat afterwards.
"So, what's you major?" Tyler asked, trying to get the two to talk.
"Sports Marketing. It was the only thing I knew I’d be good at.” There was a small silence before she spoke again. “Uh, Melanie’s majoring in drama. I mean, I love acting, but without her I would've never thought about doing it."
"That's cool. I was in a few musicals back in my day." Trent stated proudly, as the girl across from giggled. "Is there something funny?"
"Sorry, I just can't picture you in a musical." She smiled.
"I'll have you know I was the star."
"Since when is 'townsperson number one' the star?" Tyler blurted. Maxine broke out into giggles. Trent smiled at this.
"I was the leader, and I got the most lines."
"You guys are hilarious." The rest of the meal was filled with jokes and laughter. When they were done, Maxine got up to clear the plates.
"I'll do it." Her roommate offered. Tyler slipped away to avoid having to do dishes.
"It's fine, I'm used to cleaning."
"Yeah, but you cooked. I'll clean."
"Tell you what, why don't we just do it together." She suggested seeing that Trent wasn't going to give up. He nodded and the two cleared the plates and began to wash them. Maxine splashed lightly in the warm sudsy water. Trent smiled goofily at her.
"You're so cute." He said. It'd left his mouth before he could stop himself. Trent turned around and laughed.
"It's a habit." She giggled. The beauty beckoned for Trent to come close. Scooping up some of the bubbles, she blew them off her hand and into his face. He looked shocked. He repeated her actions, as she giggled. Trent laughed at the face his roommate made. Not even realizing that the other roommates were watching them, they started to throw the water at each other. He slyly took the hose connected to the sink and aimed it at Maxine.
"You wouldn't dare." She challenged. Trent smirked and let the water spray all over her. Maxine yelped and laughed until he stopped. She was soaked, and her clothes clung to her body. Trent stopped and started. Her shirt was see-through. He gulped. Jason let out a cough, and that's when it hit Maxine. She immediately hid behind Trent to cover herself.
"Uh, morning?" Michael, a friend of the guys’, greeted. Jason seemed to be speechless. They all watched as a tiny hand grabbed a towel from the counter. The poor girl held the small cloth in front of her and scurried off to her room.
"So, um..." Jason's mind raced. He wasn't sure what to think. Trent and Maxine had been flirting right in front of his eyes. He'd made it clear that he was attracted to her, but maybe that wasn't enough. "...what just happened?" He asked.
"Well, we were supposed to be cleaning up, but I guess we made an even bigger mess." A smile crossed his face. Jason noted this. He would have to talk to Trent about this later on.
"Yeah, just make sure you clean up before you go running off." Tyler reminded with a smirk. Trent nodded and went back to cleaning up. The other boys went back to the previous activities.

"It was so embarrassing, Mel! They were all staring!" Maxine moaned as she informed Melanie of what happened.
"Well, at least they think you're hot! Wait, Tyler wasn't staring was he?" Maxine rolled her eyes at the phone.
"No Melanie, not that you should be concerned about him. Everyone else was. It was terrible!"
"Well, what about Trent?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, did you have fun with him?"
"Yeah-"
"Then all of this was worth it. Just pretend it didn't happen. I can tell you have a crush on him, so if he brings it up...make a joke out of it." Maxine wasn't even paying attention. She'd lost where Melanie was going the minute her friend said she was crushing on him.
"How do you know I have a crush on him?"
"It's obvious. Otherwise, you wouldn't have called for advice. If you didn't like him, you could deal. That and the fact that he's the only one you mentioned by name." The more the she thought about it. The more she realized her friend was right. She was attracted to Trent, there was no denying that. The way he looked at her made it hard not to have some sort of feelings for him.
"Yeah, not to mention that he had me giggling like a freakin’ idiot. I've gotta go. Talk to you soon?" She hung up without waiting for her friend to answer. It wasn't necessary. They would be going shopping the next day anyway. Maxine sighed and buried her face into her pillow. She'd only lived there for about three days and managed to embarrass herself. But that wasn't the thing that bothered her. It was that she was beginning to fall for someone that was supposed to be her roommate...
