Chapter Six

Tyler stared aimlessly at the ceiling. It had to be about noon, and if that were true, he'd spent half the day in bed. It wasn't as if he were sleeping, or trying to come up with something productive to do. No, that definitely hadn't been the case. Unless of course you would call thinking about the female down the hall productive. Yes, his mind was replaying that famous giggle of hers over and over again. He concluded that he would never get sick of hearing it.

"Knock, knock." A voice called as the person knocked on the door.

"It's open." Tyler responded. Jason's head peaked through the door. "Hey Jay." He sat up on the bed. "What's up?"

"Oh...y'know...not much." The male stammered as he made his way into the room. Tyler raised an eyebrow at his friend. This wasn't like Jason. Granted, he was always forgetful, but this time it seemed like he was..nervous.

"Okay...so what's up for today?" The blue-eyed male asked, trying to change the subject. He wasn't good with nervous people. Most of the time, he just made things worse.

"Not much, Mike and I are going downtown to look at some film equipment.  Trent's got damage control with Tammy." Jason replied casually, cringing when he mentioned the happy couple. Tyler  sighed. How was he going to bring Maxine into the conversation? He knew that Jason was after her, but he didn't feel right openly competing for her against his friend.

"Cool, I'll probably hang out with Maxi then." So much for it being hard to bring her up in the conversation.

"Oh really?" Jason asked, trying to keep his voice calm. "What's going on with you two?"

"What do you mean?" Tyler questioned as he got off the bed. He walked over to the closet and pulled out a pair of sneakers. "We're only friends." He bit his lip after the words left his mouth. He wasn't exactly seeing Maxine as a friend. He was attracted to her, there was no doubt. If he hadn't been so worried about his friend, he would've made his move.  He just needed to be sure Jason wouldn't be hurt in the process.

"Really?" Jason let out a breath of relief. "So...you're not going to try and get with her?" Realization seemed to punch Tyler in the gut. That's what this was about. Jason was looking for him to give him the go ahead.

"Of course not. That's got drama written all over it."

"Oh!" He laughed. "Great. Well, I'm going to head out." Tyler nodded, still not facing his friend.

"Okay." He listened for the door to close, but it didn't. He turned around to see Jason still standing there.

"Just so we're clear, that's a clear green light for me right?" Tyler blew out a breath.

"Yes Jason. I'm giving you a clear green light to go for Maxine." Inside his head, the Tyler cursed himself for speaking those words. He wanted to take them back, and he would've. But the grin that appeared on the raven haired male's face halted him.

"Awesome. Thanks dude." This time Jason left. He ran a hand through his hair. Plopping down on his bed, he grabbed a pillow and screamed into it.

"Trying scream therapy?" Maxine's voice asked from the door. Tyler lifted the pillow and looked at her. She smiled brightly before stepping into the room.

"Um, just a bit." He replied sitting up. The beauty giggled and sat on the bed.

"I'm guessing this has something to do with Jason?" Tyler groaned loudly in response. He placed the pillow back over his face. "I'll take that as a yes." She giggled.

"That would be correct." He mumbled.

"So...what happened?" She asked, sitting beside him and peeking under his pillow.
