The phone slipped out of my hand and my face grew pale. I was frozen. I felt my skin growing icy cold. Max. The two words repeated in my head “He’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead...” I spun around and grabbed the nearest thing to me – a lamp – and threw it off the wall, smashing it into a million pieces. I continued to throw more items off the wall: Books, Cups, my skateboards, DVDs, My radio etc. and in the end, I collapsed upon the floor. Most of my anger was drained out, but not all. I started scratching hard at my skin while lying on the floor. I don’t know what was making me do it, I just was. I had promise Max that I wouldn’t cut, so I didn’t. I was just scratching and scratching, making myself bleed a lot.
After about 2 minutes of doing this, I received a text. The phone had vibrated next to my head so it had given me a shock, causing me to stop scratching. I picked up the phone with my bloody hands, getting blood all over the device. I read the message:
“Get to the hospital.” That was from Lisa. The hospital was about 5 minutes from where I lived, and both my parents weren’t going to be in for a few hours, so I grabbed my house key, ignoring my appearance. I ran to the door, unlocked it, got out and locked it again. Placing the key in my jeans pocket, I began to run towards the hospital. I ran, and I ran, with zero chance of stopping. People were giving me strange looks and I had no idea why, but there was no time to find out as I just kept running.
I finally got to the doors of the hospital and I ran inside. As I ran to the front desk, I slammed my hands down on top of it to stop my body accelerating any further. “Greenson” I panted, “Max Greenson?” I asked, awaiting my answer of where he was. The receptionist took a good long look at me before replying with “Down the hall”. She pointed to a man who was dressed in a long white jacket. “Mr. Barker will lead you to him”. I looked up at the man. He only looked a few years older that myself. He smiled at me and started walking down the hall, increasing the speed of his pace. My legs were ready to collapse on themselves from running to this place, but I too started quickening my pace. I needed to see Max desperately. People in the hospital were giving me funny looks too, but I just ignored them.
We finally arrived at a door leading into a room with a single bed. “There he is” said the man and he continued down the hall, leaving me to enter the room alone.
