Chapter 6

So it’s Saturday, and I don’t have to worry about Purdy or Andy. Jeremy called me the night before asking if I wanted to hang out with him and Coma today as he felt bad about not doing anything about the two bullies. I told him not to feel bad, but that I would hang out with him. I wasn’t very happy with the fact my nose looked like a boxer’s, but I wasn’t “self-conscious” about it either. I had been told to meet Jeremy outside the skate park, and that Coma would meet us outside with buttloads of fast food. I didn’t really feel like eating but I didn’t want to seem rude. I just hoped they wouldn’t notice when I hardly touch the food. Anyway, I did as I was told and met Jeremy. Without even saying ‘hi’, he asked the question I was dreading. “How was the date?” I tried to find the right words to sum up the answer. “Well, it was okay I guess. We decided to go to the pizzeria instead. Turns out she loves pizza just as much as I do. We exchanged numbers and tha-“ I said before I was interrupted. “WOAH WOAH WOAH WHAT?! YOU EXCHANGED NUMBERS?” Jeremy asked, shouting for just about the whole world to hear. “Shhh! Keep it down man!” I said to him, slightly frustrated.  He shook his head. “Sorry dude, I just didn’t expect it to go that well!” he said grinning. He was clearly ‘proud’ of me. “To be honest dude, me neither!” I laughed, and just I did my phone vibrated and KISS blasted out of it. I took my phone out of my pocket and looked at it. “Ooh! That’s her now!” I said laughing. Jeremy smiled more, putting his ear against the back of my phone. He really wanted to hear the conversation.

Hey Jake you wanna hang out again tonight?”

“Yeah, sure”

“Great! I’ll meet you outside of the skate park at 6”

“Haha, I may be a bit early as I’m there now!”

“Haha, out with Coma and Jeremy I’m guessing. Oh well, I’ll catch you at 6 yeah?”

“Yeah, sure thing”

“Okay bye sweetie”

“Bye, beautiful”

I couldn’t believe what I had just said. I didn’t mean to say it, it just slipped out. Jeremy looked at me gobsmacked with his mouth wide open. “Beautiful? Bye beautiful?!” he asked laughing. I looked at the floor in shame. I was sure Ella wouldn’t want me to hang out with her now after I said this. I told Jeremy that. “Are you kidding me?! This is great! Smooth one Jake” he said, still laughing. He threw his hand in the air for a high-five and I slammed it with my hand. I still felt like it was the wrong move, but maybe it wasn’t. Maybe Jeremy was right. I suddenly got nervous.

What seemed like 5 minutes later, Coma came up the bank with boxes of food. There were lots, and I mean LOTS of food. I don’t understand how he thought 3 people could manage so much but then again, this was Coma! He ate everything in sight. Anyway, we all sat down on a skate ramp and Jeremy began unwrapping the food and started to lay it all out. I just turned my nose up at it. I wasn’t eating at all. Screw ‘not being rude’. Coma looked at me in a worried tone. “You know you gotta eat” he said. I shrugged and stared into the distance. There was a plane in the background which was swerving around the sky that had caught my attention. 5 seconds later it went down. Not normally –nose first. Then all of a sudden, BANG! Jeremy jumped. “What the hell was that!?” he asked looking up from his burger. “A plane” I said, continuing to look at the same position of the sky I was the whole time, not attempting to shift my squinting eyes. Both Jeremy and Coma shrugged and started eating again.

I eventually turned back to see that the pair and just about demolished all of the food. What the hell? It had been, what, 5 minutes? I looked at my phone to check for messages. 5:45 it read. Holy crap, that was NOT 5 minutes. I told Jeremy the time and he looked and me and giggled. Coma looked clueless. “What’s going on?” he said. “You gotta be somewhere?” I looked at him “Yeah, here.” I said. “With his girlfriend” Jeremy said still giggling. He had said ‘Girlfriend’ in a sing-song voice. Coma laughed with him. He got it now. “Ella” he said. I nodded staying silent. Coma wiped the smile off his face. “You’re going to be fine, I promise” he told me and started smiling again. “Yeah, and we’ll always be here no matter what” Jeremy added. I eventually cracked a smile, something I hadn’t done for a few hours. “I love you guys” he told Jeremy and Coma. “Awesome, now save some loving Kissy Lips” Jeremy laughed while making smooching noises. Everyone laughed, but it all died down after a few seconds.

I checked my phone again. 5:55. I told the guys and they immediately stood up. “Good luck, dude” Coma said hugging me. Jeremy did the same and just as he did that he started jumping up and down. “There she is! There she is!!” he said, sounding like a child on Christmas. I suddenly got nervous again. Coma registered this and smiled. “You’ll be fine” he said. I agreed then they both left. I straightened myself out and ruffled my hair. I knew I shouldn’t have been as nervous as last time, but here’s the thing – I was. In fact, more nervous than last time. Oh god, here we go.

Guys, I’m going to start making the chapters a bit longer J I’m also going to add different POV’s, starting from the next chapter. Hopefully you’ll like it? Maybe not? I don’t know, let’s hope so!
