Hire lay on his back, staring at the dark ceiling. Out of nowhere, the bed he lay on shifted so that one side felt heavier than the other. Someone’s here. Mael? He shifted his gaze to the newcomer.
“... You?”
“That’s no way to welcome your fiancée,” Came the reply. Her expression was one of utter determination. Oh boy, Hire thought. Here it comes.
“Did you agree to this of your own free will?”
He looked at her in surprise. “Huh—I mean, pardon?”
Suki rolled her eyes and lay on her stomach, propping herself up on her elbows. “No need for formalities. I hate that crap. So Hiretsuna, what do you think of all this?”
Hire inwardly winced at the use of his full name. “Hire’s fine, thank you.”
The blonde nodded. “Hire then.”
Hire sat up and ran a hand through his hair. What he thought of this? He had mainly agreed out of curiosity. What was his enemy’s daughter like? That’s what he came to find out. It turned out that the princess had indeed caught his interest. She could come into great use for him.
“To be honest,” He began. “I’m just using you.”
“...What?”
“You and everyone around me are nothing but pawns. ‘Course, now you’ll be the queen. Congrats on the promotion.” He grinned.
“You're a bastard.”
“Why thank you.”
Suki huffed and stood. “You better not annoy me when we get married. And don’t dare order me around. I won’t take it.” She tilted her head to the side. “And never, never, challenge me. Got that?”
“Yes ma’am.” He smirked. “But those are high demands. What do you do in return?”
“Absolutely nothing.” She grinned.
“... Seriously?”
“Yup! As my husband, you are entitled to making me happy!” She laughed.
Hire scowled. “What’s so funny?”
“You're expression is priceless.”
Silence.
“What?” Suki smirked.
Hire sighed and tilted his head back. My life is going to be veeeeery long. It doesn’t help that I’m immortal. But now she adds to it.
Suki stood. “Well now that we have that settled, I’ll go. See ya at dinner!” Bounding to the door, she opened it and left.
... Very long indeed. He groaned and fell backwards back onto the bed.
The white haired doctor sat back in his white seat in his white room. He was old, yes. But that wasn’t the reason his hair was such a color. It was that way since birth. He looked to be in his mid twenties. Not his actual age of several centuries.
Looking down at the medical reports on his desk, he chuckled. It’s almost time. How ready are you, my dear? He glanced at the picture hung on the wall, framed by a border of pure gold. For what else was precious for his two precious test subjects?
