It's time to get up and go
Pack my bags and leave home
If I'd have known
It was the last time I'd leave home
I'd have given it that last look -
The red bricks, the green grass
I will go, but my home will last.
It's a steady morning,
Last night was sleepless
I hear the birds calling
Butterflies in my stomach
Today is the day -
And then there is rain
It's pouring, glinting grass blades
Puddles of muddy water
Slowly seeping down the drains -
The roads are clean,
A dark grey - blooming concrete.
Today is the day
they give me away -
And there is love in the air.
There is much to celebrate
But my heart is in another place
Wandering far away
To the corners of my mind
Where memories now lay
Locked forever.
Those days went by in a blur
Now I can't think of them
Except in pieces -
The memories don't last forever
But the feelings are preserved
In neurones, electrical pulses.
And they get sparked
By littlest everyday things
Bringing a smile to my lips
Without me knowing.
