She slept quietly in Assaggi's scarred arms as Assaggi gazes at her daughter lovingly. Small brown fuzz was on Nyah's head that matched Nile's hair. Her skin was the same color as Assaggi. Small natural born scars were on her arms that matched the scars Assaggi had on her arms. It was like gazing at a baby Assaggi.

Assaggi wondered what the baby's eyes looked like. She lets out a wide yawn and rests her head on the wool pillow with Nyah cradled in her arms. Shutting her eyes, she slowly began to fall asleep.

I was so close to death, yet I survived, Assaggi thought.

The flap of the door screen woke her. Opening one eye, Assaggi looks toward the entrance and saw her mate standing there. A soft smile came to Nile's lips when he saw her. "Did I wake you?" he asked in whisper. "I was about to sleep." Assaggi replied.

Nile slowly stepped toward her, careful not to wake up his child. He gets down on his knees and leans in to kiss Assaggi. His lips press softly against her temple. "Nyah is beautiful, isn't she?" Assaggi spoke in her native language. "She is." Nile responded in her language.

His hand rested on her lower abdomen. Slowly, he rubs her bare stomach. "I'm glad you are alright. My heart stopped beating when you fell unconscious." Nile whispered.

Shutting her eyes, Assaggi tried to remember. "I was dead for how long?" Assaggi asked. Their eyes met and everything became silent. "A few minutes. I lost count as I tried to bring you back." Nile said.

The soreness in her stomach was hard to ignore. But what made her wonder was what her family had to go through. They witnessed her die after giving birth. She was lucky to survive.

Running her fingers over Nyah's soft face, Assaggi cooed softly. "I'm sorry to worry you all." she apologized. She reaches up and traces a scar on Nile's cheek. "I'm just glad you're alive." Nile whispered. Leaning forward, Nile softly touches Assaggi's lips with his own.

Their kiss was cut short by the squirming of their child. They broke away and looked at Nyah. She was squirming in Assaggi's arms.

"Do you think she'll be like you or me?" Assaggi asked.

"I honestly believe she'll be like you." Nile confessed. It got him a light laugh from his wife. "Just hope she doesn't have her mother's anger issues." she said with an evil smile, sending shivers down Nile's spine.
