'You must really love Kendo to hide your true self...' Master's words from a few days ago, replay in my head. I sigh and keep walking. Of course I do, its the only thing father hasn't taken from me. Since that day, the Master has been pairing me with different members, each time the fight gets more intense, today though, I have a bad feeling. 'Next class, bring your A-Game, I believe I found a suitable partner for you.' The Master's last words replay from last class. Suitable partner huh? I wonder who it is...there's only two more students that I haven't fought, the newest kid; he's a first timer when it comes to Kendo, so it couldn't be him. Then there's the other one, I don't recall how long he's been in Kendo Club, but his moves and posture tell me he definitely excels in Kendo...it's gotta be him then. As I'm going through this, I hear my last name being called. I snap out of my thought and look around, I stood in the doorway to Kendo Club. I'm here already, wow. I'm glad I changed before coming here... I had been running late, due to father calling me, to tell me how he "dominated" his meeting with a very important American company. I sigh and bow at the edge of the Dojo. "I was wondering where you were, you're five minutes late, usually you're early. Everything alright?" Master asks. I nod my head silently. "Alright, well now that you're here, head to the middle so we can get started." He says. I nod again and walk inside the circle in the middle of the room. "Nagasaki, today you'll be fighting Takashi." The Master's words echo in my head, before my eyes widen in shock mixed with a twinge of fear. Takashi...wait...he's in Kendo Club too?! I watch as all the members go silent as they move so Takashi can get through. A few whisper "Nagasaki against Mori, poor kid doesn't stand a chance." Others say "Alright! I was waiting for this match!" Meanwhile I'm sweating bullets, silently freaking out. He's sure to figure it out! What am I going to do?! I struggle to keep my breathing controlled. Maybe he won't figure it out, maybe he umm-uh... At the same time as I'm trying to convince myself he won't figure it out, someone's voice catches my attention. "Fight!" Master calls out and before long, a weapon swings towards me, forcing me to block quickly, eyes widened in surprise at how close he was to me. My Red eyes flick up to his Silver ones, and widen even more, due to our eyes meeting. At first he doesn't seem to recognize me, but as we continue to stare into the other's eyes, his normally cool expression changes to shock. Oh no... I swallow nervously, waiting for him to expose me, but it doesn't happen. Instead, his surprise is hidden behind an expression I knew all too well.
Again my eyes widen, right before he kicks out at me, and throws me off balance. I grunt from the hit. But before I can recover, he's launching at me, making me duck quickly. As he's pulling his weapon back, I snap out of my shocked state, remembering all our fights, and soon, I swing my weapon towards him, this time making him jump out of the way in order to dodge my attack. I smirk and look at his face, seeing the same smirk and determination like he always had when we fought. Its like nothing has changed... The thought makes me laugh softly as the competitive, more playful side of me surfaces, blocking out the unease and nervousness completely. Well then Morinozuka, game on. With that thought, I launch at him. He meets me half way, with his own attack, which I try to block, but fail and am thrown off balance, in which he quickly takes advantage of. I fall backwards. But quickly catch myself before my bottom could hit the ground, which would've been game over. He sees his attack didn't succeed, and launches again. Deja-vu comes to mind, from one of the fights we had, making me realise what attack he is going to use. Not this time! As soon as he's within reach, I quickly position myself, and use my right leg to sweep his feet right from under him, he doesn't have time to dodge, and falls. I did it...it worked! I did it! I get my hopes up all to soon. He manages to catch himself before he touched the ground. What?! Are you kidding me?! How?! My eyes are wide with shock, and I narrow them in annoyance. We stare at each other, each of our shoulders rising and falling rapidly. Everyone around us is silent, to shocked to speak. They probably didn't think I'd last this long against him. The sound of slow clapping catches his and my attention, and we turn towards the source, who is none other than the Master. He had a content smile on his face, with an amused expression to go with it. "Very well done you two, I think all of us can agree, that Nagasaki and Takashi will be partnered up for the rest of the school year, am I correct?" Master asks the rest of class. "Yes sir!" They say and Takashi and I look towards each other. Takashi smirks and nods towards me in acknowledgement. I find myself unknowingly smiling brightly. Does this mean we get a second chance? A feeling of Hope surfaces, but soon vanishes when the memory of father surfaces.
Flashback
Takashi and I were walking in the field near my home, holding hands as we walked around. This was our spot, it always had been, we would always come here as kids and play 'Tiger in the Grass' or 'Hide n Seek.' As we had grown older, we weren't able to go there as much, today, Takashi and I had been able to get away, but Honey had other business to attend to, so he couldn't make it, so Takashi and myself had taken this day as well, a 'Just Us' day, which we had very few opportunities for. As we walked around, I notice a group of wildflowers, and break away from Takashi, to run ahead. "What is it?" Takashi asked, not knowing why I ran ahead, and chases after me. I don't answer, just stop next to the flowers, which he couldn't see just yet, and bend towards it to pick a few. As he reached me, I raise myself from my knees, and turn towards him hiding the flowers from view. I smile up at him happily as I beckon him closer. At first he's cautious, but he soon bends down towards me, with a slight shade of pink to his cheeks. I smile brightly and reach one of my hands towards his face, gently placing a buttercup flower in the space between the tip of his ear, and his head, before taking my hand away with a giggle, before running away. Confused, he gently reaches up to his ear, and feels the flower sitting there, after that, he looks in the direction I went, and after seeing me running, he quickly chases after me. I hide behind a small tree with small White flowers and go completely silent. I couldn't keep the smile from my face, or the quiet giggles from escaping. There was no sound, just the rustling of the leaves and grass against the soft breeze. Without warning, someone snatches me off the ground and into their strong arms. I squeal in surprise, knowing who it was, and giggle. Takashi spins me around a couple times, making me hold on tight to his neck, before stopping. I look up at him with a bright smile. He smiles softly, places a flower in the same spot I did him, before slowly descending his lips to mine. "Kimiko Nagasaki what the hell are you doing?!" I hear the enraged voice of my father, making Takashi and I break apart quickly and separate. "F-Father?! W-What are you doing here? I-I thought you were working!" I say shocked. "Like hell you did you little tramp!" He says angrily before backhanding me across the face, snapping my head to the side. I feel something warm trickle from my bottom lip, and quickly place my hand to it. The pain of contact makes me flinch and I take my hand away, seeing blood on a couple of my fingers, before looking towards father again. "And you!" Father says before grabbing a fistful of Takashi's shirt, and bringing him close to his face. "Stay the hell away from my daughter! She does not, and will never belong to you, do you understand me?!" He yells in Takashi's face. "No father don't! Please! I love him, please don't do this!" I scream, grabbing his arm which extended towards Takashi. "What?!" He snarls before throwing Takashi away, grabbing my arm roughly, and shaking me. "No you don't! I forbid it! I forbid you from having anything to do with that boy again! Do you understand me?!" He yells in my face, making my eyes widen and water at his words. "No! Please! Don't say that, I'm begging you!" I say as the tears fall down my cheeks. "Beg all you want! Its final! Do you understand me?" He yells in my face. I flinch and fall to my knees. "I said do you understand me!" Father yells. I look towards Takashi, who still lay in the position father had made him do. Tears stream down my face as we stare at each other. Takashi nods his head in understanding, before getting up, and walking away. Takashi...
