13. Avalon Heights and the Book Unfolding
Avalon is a strong name. Its’ powerful like the place was itself, and therefore fits this school perfectly. How coincidental.
It’s now Sunday and so hard to believe that it was only yesterday that I was told I was an angelic being, a faerie.
Lunch had just finished and Ever, Bree, Ray and I were chilling in Ray and Bree’s dorm room.
Bree and Ray’s dorm room was amusing, like day and night side by side. Rayne’s half was a mellow paled yellow where as Bree’s was blood red with a black feature wall where her bed was. Rayne’s had a poster of The Strokes and an Amnesty International where as Bree had a Parkway Drive and an As I lay dying poster on the black wall. Ray had a yoga mat and Bree had a carnivorous pot plant, the Venus fly trap that snapped shut when you put your fingers in them. So they were dark and light, complete opposites.
After that night, Evelyn and I had exchanged a few questions and answers about Melissa, but it was awkward on both behalves and we dropped the subject, avoiding it for now. Luckily, they hadn’t been that close of friends but it was still taboo.
On the plus side, Bree had taken a shine to me now that I knew about her and the place and myself. I was officially apart of the group now, I was in the in crowd. It was amazing how I felt so at home and familiar with these people whom I had only just been accustomed to the previous day.
It felt good.
Bree and I had actually been talking, I guess out of our group I was the one person she could relate to the most. And she was actually pretty cool once you got to know her.
So the four of us sat down not knowing what to do next, Ray was on her bed painting her toe nails, Ever sat on one of the bean bags flicking through a magazine, I was checking out Bree’s iPod and Bree was sitting on the floor chomping down some forbidden chocolate bars that she must have snuck in. It was so normal and I did not want to ruin that by thinking about angels and faeries.
“Oh I love this band!” I told her.
“Same here! They’re my favourite band of all time!” Bree smiled.
I turned the volume up a little, Ever looked up from her magazine as if judging whether she liked it or not, she shrugged as if to say ‘not bad’ and went back to reading.
“Please change the song! Your heavy metal hurts my ears…” Rayne complained jokingly but with serious distaste.
“This is the good stuff” I answered back.
Bree nodded in agreement. I wondered how these complete opposites managed to share a room and get along with each other. It was funny to look from one side of the room to the other.
Because I was nice, and thought that Bree and Ray must already have enough clashes here and there, I changed the song to a good old rock song.
Ten minutes went by with chatter here and there but mostly we were just relaxing, it was Sunday, Sunday is everyone’s lazy day.
“Well, not gonna lie, this getting boring now, let’s go out and do something fun or productive!” exclaimed Rayne.
“Well you come up with an idea” said Evelyn.
“We could vege out and watch a movie” I suggested.
“Nah, let’s get out of this room and out of this school!” Bree enthused.
“Bree, holidays are just finishing, we’ve all only just got back, we’ve been out of this school for a while!” laughed Ever.
“I agree with Bree…” Ray started.
