Eclipse: Chapter 11
by Spottedleaf9 and Dracanoth Dereal
(Valisilwen)
The herbs did nothing for my nightmares, but I kept my mouth shut and endured the night sickness; keeping it to myself. Dracanoth had tried to fix it and it wasn't working. Clearly, I was meant to suffer. In my mind, I thought it likely that the divines had abandoned me and were cursing me every step of the way; despite the nearly dead voice that I'd labeled "Old Me". Each time, I was plunged back into that dark, bloody world of magic unknown and creatures new. It was odd; I'd never read anything like it and had not had any adventures even close to the world I saw every night when I went to sleep.
I was confused and could think of only one solution to this puzzling situation. In the end, I made my decision.
It was obvious to me. Vaermina, daedric prince of all that was evil in the realm of dreams and nightmares alike, was experimenting with me. I had become a test subject of the daedra and there was literally nothing I could do but watch my world spin slowly on and serve Dracanoth as best I could in this disoriented state.
I sat each night; watching him meditate, trying to touch his magicka. I could feel the magic swirling in him and knew he was closer to reaching it than he had ever been before. If not tonight, it couldn't be any more than two or three before Dracanoth got in touch with his inner source of magic.
I brought him Earl Grey whenever he wasn't in his mind; trying to connect to that hidden area. I was quiet and stayed out of the way; at the same time wondering who the Old Me was. I'd forgotten her beyond the occasional insistence from that nearly dead voice in my head that what I was doing was wrong and that I could stop if I would just take up my bow again.
Ignoring this voice as I always did, I watched Dracanoth; aware that he was growing closer. I had been wrong. It would be tonight. Dracanoth would soon see the results he so desperately craved.
Leaving a tray of tea next to him, I made a suggestion. "There is one spell every soul knows how to use from the very beginning. Try to envision a ball of warmth in your hand; circulating hot air. Make it grow warmer in your head. Feel a burning sensation. Picture a ball of flames spring to life in your hands and wreathing through your fingers. You're really close. I know you can do it if you just follow my instructions." Then I shut my mouth and waited to see if I had been any help or merely a hindrance.
(Dracanoth)
Light flickered behind the darkness of my eyelids, illuminating the area around me of which I could not see. At first it required large amounts of concentration and dedication but after I managed to get the small flame to appear above the palm of my hand I was able to expand it contract it and bend it every which way I pleased with ease, as well as diminish it and re-summon it at will. I had heard of the three basic types of destructive magic in this world, fire, electricity, and frost, and after I mastered the most basic of magics from this world I would move on to Alteration, learning to manipulate not only the things around me, but my body itself. And instead of simply generating heat electricity or creating a lack of heat, manipulating the actual structure of matter around me. That was the definition to the beginning of Alteration, going beyond moving ions for lightning or speeding and slowing atoms to create hot or cold. Alteration went beyond that, and for a short time actually altered the physical structure of an atom only maintaining it in that form for as long as the magic users capabilities allowed.
This was only the tip of the iceberg when it came to magic and I knew it. I opened my eyes and looked closely into the depths of the fire, as it began spreading up my arm and enveloping my entire body. Destruction magic was so basic and easily manipulated. I wouldn't be focused on it for long. Soon it would be time to move on to more advanced spells yet.
