My Top Ten Yu Yu Hakusho Characters

#7- Chu

I even surprised myself with this one...

When we're first introduced to Chu, let's be honest, he was pretty damn lame...

As far as characters with an alcohol problem go, he's nothing too special. Yes his form of being on-your-ass drunk is more believable than others I've seen before, but we already had the drunk character in Yusuke's mother. Whenever a series has more than one off-his/her-ass drunk character, it usually doesn't work.

However, Yu Yu Hakusho did something right once again in kind of writing Yusuke's mother out of the series by some point. (Did any of you notice she was gone? I didn't...)

That frees us up to another character to fill the role as the series' drunk guy. And if we're going to be very honest, I've never seen it done so well. When Chu is drunk, he's not over-the-top with it, yet he still has lost a lot of his grasp on reality, which makes his drunken behavior more believable.

Another thing Yoshihiro Togashi did right with Chu is that he wrote him in to be more than just the drunk guy. Chu is actually one of the funniest characters in the entire series. He literally flirts with a girl with the following line: "No! Wait! I'll kick your ass!"

Let me say for the record though, that line usually doesn't work on women. I had to learn the hard way...
