When I woke up the next day, I leaned my arm under my bed, eyes still closed, to pick up my battered copy of whichever VA book my hand reached first. There wasn't anything there. At first I though one of my brothers had took them as a joke, so I opened my eyes to see I wasn't in my bedroom. Panicking I sat up, till I remembered I was in Rose and Dimitri's apartment. Wow. Its real, it wasn't a dream. Properly looking around, I noticed a set of clothes at the bottom of the bed. They were my size and everything, Id bet they were from Lissa. After id changed, I walked in to see Rose sitting at the table looking through all the information she has on spirit.

"Hi," I said meakly, and she jumped before turning around, smiling.

"Hi. There's food in the fridge," She said pointing.

"Thanks," I said, retrieving the food. "Where's Dimitri?" I asked.

"At work," she said almost wistfully, "Lissa insisted I took the day off. Once you've eaten were going to see Lissa in the meeting room. We've got to decided what to do about this." She looked at me and I knew she felt sorry for me. I scarfed down my food and we set off to find Lissa. When we walked in, she noticed me and ran up to give me a hug.

"Mackenzie!" she said, "Hi! Oh and hi Rose!" she said, giving her sisterly friend a hug too.

"Hi Liss. So, come on then." We walked over to the table where Christian was sitting down with Dimitri next to him.

"Hi there Sparky." Rose quipped.

"Rosie," he smirked back. "And Mackenzie?"

"Hi Christian." I smiled.

Then I went over to Dimitri and gave him a hug.

"Hi there," he smiled. I rested my head on his shoulder and he pulled me onto his lap. Although there was plenty of chairs, I liked it on his lap, it made me feel safe, and he did start the gesture. So, throughout the meeting I stayed there, and he comforted me as they decided on my fate.

"Its not safe for her to go home!" Rose said, her voice rising even more, "The Strigoi will find out she knows and then all hell will break out. They'll most likely torture her for information since she's been in court. They might even change her!"

At that I cringed into Dimitri and he murmured Russian in my ear, it comforted me like it does Rose.

"Roza," Dimitri said and she sunk into her chair. She was just worried about me, I reminded myself, though the words she'd spoken dug into my chest scaring me. As the words 'they might even change her' repeat in my mind, I let out an involuntary whimper, and Dimitri rubbed my back soothingly.

"Rose! I know your just worried about her but what about her family? They don't even know what's happened to her!" Lissa started, but was interrupted by Rose.

"Well we cant bring them here. One its not allowed and two it would scare the hell out of them. Its bad enough that Mackenzie here found out after already knowing what was going on. I cant imagine what she's thinking right now." As she said the last bit, she stroked the hair out of my face and looked at me with sorrow and love.

"We're in an impossible situation." sighed Lissa. And to them we were. However, I sat there thinking about the infinite amount of times that id thought about how I would give up my life at home to even spend a moment with them, let alone forever. Of course, then id thought that it was impossible. But in that moment, I knew it would resolve so many problems if I just stayed at court. That's if they wanted me of course. Id miss my family but this was a chance in a life time - these people had been my inner escape since the first book came out when I was just five years old. Although I hadn't fully understood it back then, as each book came out, I re read the past ones and found the series had become my life.
