01. The Beginning
Edited 1.5.20My parents were hardly ever home, however, today was not one of those days. And for the hundredth time since they got home from their mission, did I wish that they were still gone. In fact, I often found myself wishing that they didn't exist. A child is supposed to love their parents, but how is it possible to love such awful human beings?
The only good thing about today was that my best friends, muggle twins that live four streets over, came home from what they called 'summer camp'. They had been gone for all of June, and during their absence I realized just how incredibly empty my life was without them. My parents despised muggles, so once they stopped screaming at each other and went to bed, I could sneak out to see my friends without getting in a tremendous amount of trouble.
Time crept by slowly until I heard what I could only assume to be my father storming across the hall to his study. I glanced at the clock on the wall that read ten at night and frowned for a millisecond. It was still a little early, but screw it, I wasn't waiting any longer. My dad was likely to sleep in his study, and my mom was probably going to stay locked in their room -- it was time to go. I hopped out of bed and pulled out a muggle flashlight that I had gotten a hold of a few months ago and signaled to where I hoped the twins were already waiting. I hadn't even gotten my shoes on all the way before a few light taps on my balcony door got my attention.
"We know you're in there, you can't hide from the Wonder Twins!" A dramatic female voice exclaimed from behind the glass.
"Either you're coming out or we're coming in," a male voice added brightly.
A huge smile broke out on my face immediately. Megara and Jeremiah Spire, the "Wonder Twins", knew everything about about the magical world -- well, everything that I could risk telling them anyway. It wasn't exactly on purpose that they found out to begin with, but once the secret was out, it was out. Luckily, they were awestruck by the roses that grew instantaneously in middle of a snow pile, and swore to secrecy. I love them more than anything.
Raven hair pulled into a messy bun, gold eyes, and pale skin dressed in shorts and a t-shirt looked back at me when I glanced at the mirror before slipping out of the balcony doors. The twins were the same height, a good two inches taller than myself, and were brunettes. Jeremiah had shoulder length hair, usually tied in a low ponytail, whereas Megara had a short pixie cut, but they shared the same emerald eyes.
"Fancy meeting you here," Jeremiah said when I stepped out on the balcony.
"Total coincidence, I know." Before either of them could say anything else, I wrapped my arms around them both. "I missed you guys so friggin' much, please don't leave me ever again."
Megara giggled and gave me a squeeze before pulling away, "We missed you too, dollface, but let's get rolling while the night's still young!" She lead the way down the balcony stairs to the backyard. Always moving, that one.
Jeremiah gave me a smile and we walked in step behind Megara.
"So how was camp, guys?"
"I had fun," Megara began from in front of us, "But Miah, on the other hand, thought it would be fun to beat a beehive like a pinata two weeks into being there."
"Shut up, I thought it was empty," he countered. "It looked like it'd been up there for years!"
"Anyway," she continued, now walking in step with Jeremiah and I, "He got stung a ridiculous amount of times-"
"Seventeen," he grumbled.
"-and spent the rest of camp recooperating," she finished without skipping a beat.
