Elissa POV:

It's been just under two weeks and neither Josh or Charlie have woken up. In fact, Charlie has been unresponsive since she was brought in. Nothing with her has gotten better. Josh has gotten a little better, he's been stabilized and it's looking good for him, but I don't want to be the person who has to break the news to him that Charlie might not wake up. After everything they've been through for him to lose her over something like this, it will crush him. "Lissa, he's waking up" I got tapped on the shoulder by Chris, nodding my head I slowly made my way to Josh's room. The doctors told us that Josh was most likely going to wake up today as he was a lot more responsive over the course of the night. I made my way to his room making an exasperated sigh, I don't want to be let down again. I walked in, stopping as I noticed Josh sitting up in his bed. His face was sad and there was a tear in his eye. "I'm so sorry Josh..." He shook his head letting the tear fall as he blinked. His hands were at his head pulling at his hair gently. He looked back up at me and I instantly started tearing up. The pain in his eyes looked like something I'd never seen before.

"Is she... Is she still alive?" His voice was audibly broken and the tears continued to fall down both our faces. "She is, but she's dying Josh. It's been 2 weeks. Her organs are shutting down, they don't think she's going to make it" he got up to move, slowly but he made it up eventually. "I need to see her" I walked over to him holding his shoulders and making him sit down. "You need to rest, Josh." The hurt on his face turned to anger within seconds. "I need to see her!" He stood up rapidly and sauntered out the door.

Josh POV:

Every emotion that I was feeling right now overpowered any physical pain I could ever think of. The thought of losing Charlie scared me. I got to her room, standing outside I could see Max sitting by her bedside. His face was red and his eyes were puffy. He'd been crying, obviously. I opened the door, too scared to even so much as look at Charlie. Max's head moved slowly to face me. "Hey, I didn't know you were awake" he stood up walking over to me. "I'll leave you with her" he walked straight past me, but instinct made me grab his arm and pull him into a hug, only making the tears that were making there way down our faces to go faster. I pulled away and nodded at him, watching him leave before I eventually looked at Charlie. Her face was pale and her body looked lifeless. Her heart monitor was the only thing keeping me on my toes. I moved so I was closer to her, I was so scared to touch her in case she broke. She looked so fragile.

"I remember someone once asked me why I loved you. To start of with I could list little things, like your smile, or your nose. Thinking about it now, it's not a feature or a single thing about you. In fact explaining to anyone why I love you is like trying to explain what water tastes like." I chuckled at the sudden realisation, knowing the smirk that'd be on her face. "If there was one thing that I could change; I'd ask you out as soon as I saw you in the bar. I shouldn't have waited, and for that I'm sorry!" I let out a sob as I fell to my knee's. "See I know that the possibility of you waking up is very slim but I just need a little bit of hope, Charlie. Fuck, I love you so much. I don't know what I'm going to do if you die. I still dream about our future. I had it all mapped out!" I wiped my face of the tears, making space for fresh ones. I took her hand in mine trying to stop myself from shaking. "We'd live in a 3 bedroom house in Surrey. We were going to have 2 kids, a girl and a boy. When I wasn't touring I'd come home and you'd be in one of their bedrooms tidying. I'd sneak up on you, wrapping my arms around your waist. You'd giggle, spinning around and wrapping your arms around my neck. We'd make out a little and our oldest. Being the son because he has to protect our girl-"

"-he'd... He'd walk in and say it was gross. We'd laugh, your cute smile would light up the room. Then we would all go downstairs to have dinner with Dan, Max, Chris and Matt. It would be like a fairytale." I squeezed her hand as the image in my head faded into nothing. "I can't see it anymore, Charlie. I'm scared and I need you. I need your reassurance. Please, I can't do this without you. It already hurts, baby!" More tears floaded my face as her heart monitor stayed the same. I wanted nothing more than for her to just wake up. "Excuse me, Josh?" I turned my head to face a nurse who was standing at the door. "You should be in your room" I gritted my teeth shaking my head. "I've just been told that my girlfriend -the love of my life- might never wake up. You can fuck right off if you think I am going to leave her!" I heard her sigh from behind me and the door closed. I'm never going to leave her bedside, she need's me now more than ever. Tears refused to stop falling down my cheeks, I lowered my head looking at the ground. I just wanted to hear her voice. That's all I wanted.

"J-Josh..." A small croaky voice came from above, "Charlie?!" My head shot up to look to her. Her face was full of pain "y-you need to g-get my diary. T-t-theres s-something you n-need to r-read" I got up onto my feet looking at her confused. "Charlie, you're awake" my voice was rushed and my actions were all over the place. "Just do it Josh. I'm not going to be here for much longer..." She squeezed my hand bringing me back down to earth. "What? How do you know? You can't leave me, Charlie. I love you!" Her eyes were sad and that's when it hit me. She's in pain. She can feel herself dying."No baby please, hold on, you can fight this!" I begged her, I was down on my knees, sobbing. I covered my face with the sheets as she moved her hand to my shoulder. "Please don't lose love, Josh. I'm going to be gone, but I want you to be happy, with someone else" her voice was shallow and teary. "I love you so much, please don't forget me. Tell Max that I love him. There's a page in the diary for him too." I stood up kissing her forehead tenderly. "I couldn't even if I tried. I love you so fucking much!" I bit my lip as her eyes closed again.

Her heart monitor slowed down and doctors and nurses charged through doing their best to keep her alive. I stood there motionless as I watched my girlfriends body lose all its life. Her heart monitor completely flatlined and the doctors gave up. I watched as they stopped trying to save her. I'll never be the same again.
