10 years later
Alexa's POV
I woke up to dogs barking outside, my room for the past ten years has been these barren four grey walls with the décor of holes and torn wallpaper. My kidnappers took me pretty far away, my old life seeming like a distant memory, except for the fact that today is my chance to escape. I've befriended the neighbor in this small town in New York, about 30 minutes from Manhattan. Her name is Brittany, she's small about four foot eleven, blonde and blue eyed. She reminds me of the female version of my brother if I looked more like him. All she knows is that I'm leaving this town to go live with some family in Australia.
As I get up from the air mattress that I've called my bed for the past 10 years, I grab my secret phone and send Brittany a text telling her I'm about ready to leave. She reply's with 'Okay girl, meet me outside in 10, I got your stuff'
I can't believe I'm about to escape...
Carefully I open my window making sure not to make any loud noises. Looking down at the drop I have, I'm starting to second guess this whole sneaking out the window thing. But, I take a deep breath, take a quick glance at the hellhole I've been stuck in for the past decade, and take my leap of faith.
When I hit the ground Brittany is waiting in her car for me. I jump up and jog over to her car and hop in the passenger side as she says
"I can't believe that one you just jumped out your window, and two that you're leaving me"
"Brittany I know that was crazy I almost shit myself and I'm sad too but, I need to go see my family I miss them" I say in return, I wish I could open up to her more but I'm scared of what could happen to her if they found out she knew.
"Alexa are you sure you want to go alone? You've never gone before?" she pesters
"Britt I'm sure I can do this, but we really need to go now if I don't want to miss this flight" I say looking at the time on the dashboard of her car. It hurts to be leaving the one person who was there for me when I needed them the most but I'm ready to go back home. I just hope everyone is ready to see me...
Luke's POV
I sat in Michael's garage, guitar in hand waiting on Ashton for practice to begin.
"Ash is always late to band practice" Calum groaned
"It's because he rides that slow ass bicycle" Michael giggles
I'm half paying attention to this conversation because I get a notification on my phone. It's a follow from a username (at)A_hemmings96 .
I figure it's a fanpage but then I recieve a message reading:
A_hemmings96 : Hey Luke, It's Alexa, I'm coming home. Should be arriving in Sydney around 11pm your time, could you come get me?
Feeling shocked, angry, happy, excited, scared, I turn to the guys. Ashton just arrived and is laying his bike down in the driveway.
"Hey guys, I just got this weird message from a girl on Instagram claiming she's Alexa and that she's coming home and she's arriving in Sydney tonight at 11?!?" I exclaim but it comes out as a question.
"Dude are you being for real right now?" Ashton says
"Umm yeah" I reply and show my mates my phone, they all look at it with the same confused but excited expression I did.
"I would ask for a picture for proof that it's her" Calum finally interjected
"Yeah Luke cuz what if we go to the airport and just get ambushed by a bunch of fans?" Mikey added
We started a band called Five Seconds of Summer about 2 years ago and we're becoming bigger, so they aren't wrong about asking for proof. So I get on my phone an ask:
luke_is_a_penguin : Hey Alexa, I just want to make sure you're not just like a fan so can I get a selfie for proof?

It's actually her. She's got the freckle by her eyebrow but she's all grown up. I can feel the tears welling up in my eyes. It's been over a decade with no contact but she's actually alive.
"GUY'S IT'S REALLY HER" I yell and jump up from my spot. Everyone scrambles to get a look at her and they all practically scream with joy too. We look at the time and we've got about 3 hours until we pick her up so we decide to break the news to my mom and hit the road.
