Chapter 7

Not like the movies

It's been two weeks since Eleanor's party, three days since I heard from Eleanor and Perrie, one day since Niall called me last, and Liam? None.

The past two weeks has been absolute torture, waiting in front of my window, wishing he would some how change his mind and come sweeping me off my feet. You know, the way it happens in fairy tales?

But this isn't a fairy tale. I'm not some damsel in distress. I wilted slowly as the days dragged on, my pain slowly turning to anger.

Was I so damn irrelevant that I didn't even deserve a clean break? Everything I knew about Liam was a complete lie, and I felt like such a fool for believing everything he told me.

I felt the heaviness around my neck as my hands felt the Ferris wheel chain he gave me, remnants of our time together. I took it off and stared at it for what seemed like ages. It felt cold in my hands, lifeless, empty. I shoved it with the rest of the stuff he gave me.

It's funny how our time together felt like an eternity, but in reality, everything I had of his all fitted in a tiny box.

I looked at some of the photo booth shots we had back when we visited the amusement park, we looked so happy then. Who knew he would just trade me in like that as soon as Danielle came back in to the picture.

I jumped when I felt my phone vibrate. I took it out of my pocket and read the caller ID.

It was Elle.

I took a deep breath and hit the answer button.

"Hey Ellie" I said, trying to sound upbeat.

"Hey babe! How have you been?" Her voice sounded worried as I heard her shuffle around on the other side.

I laughed weakly, clearing my throat. "Same as the last time you checked, I'm good"

I've been giving everyone the same generic reply. It was either "yeah I'm great" or, "yeah, I'm fine" I mean what else am I supposed to say? "I'm gutted, I wish I could crawl in a hole and die right now"? It just isn't my style.

"Okay...well just coz you and Liam broke up, doesn't mean we're no longer friends, you know that right?" I had to smile at that, Eleanor was always so damn nice and thoughtful. I mean, by default she should be taking Liam's side, but she's been there for me the whole time. It's weird to think that she use to be so cold around me. But it turned out it wasn't so hard to change her mind.

"Yeah, of course I know that. Thank you, really appreciate it" I said genuinely.

"Well, I'm meeting with Perrie for coffee today, we both want you to come. We need some girl time" she said.

"I dunno Elle..." I said, my voice trailing off.

"Okay, seriously, what is it? You tell me that you still see me as a friend, and friends are there for each other. But you won't even see us!" Her voice was rising, her tone laced with frustration.

"I know, I know...it's just I don't want to put you guys in an awkward position" my heart ached, but I powered on. "You know I love you guys..."

"MJ...your not putting us in an awkward position at all. That's really far from our minds...we just miss you that's all" she said.

I sighed, my resolve breaking little by little.

"Hello? You guys there?" I heard a voice cut through the line.

"Perrie?" I asked, my voice surprised.

"MJayyyyyyyy!! Come have coffee, pleaseee!" she begged, and I just shook my head at the two of them.
