I follow Aunt Gala into the house with my small duffle bag in hand.

Arnim is bitching about something, probably the vodka.

"And this is the staircase to your room." Aunt Gala points up. "Arnim will show you where it is."

Her posh accent filled the empty hallway, making the house seem that much older.

"Lass uns gehen , bevor Mutter explodiert wie eine Atombombe ."

Arnim takes my shaky hand and leads me up the winding stairs.

We reach the top and I feel out of breath.

He opens the first door on the right.

"Und das ist Ihr Zimmer . Fühlen Sie sich frei zu kommen und mich holen , wenn Sie etwas brauchen. ich bin recht."

He points down the hall at another door.

"Sorry, could you repeat that?" I ask.

"My room." He points at the other door again.

"Oh, ok. Thank you, Arnim."

He nods and walks away, then I turn to go into the room.

It's a black hole, and if I step inside I'll never get out again.

I quickly shut the door and take some deep breaths.

"It's just a room, it's just a room." I say over and over until its engraved in my mind.

I slowly turn the handle again, and I see the faint outline of a bed.

Fumbling for the light switch, I put down my bag and squint.

I find it and the lights come on.

My room is fair sized, with a wardrobe and a huge bed.

I run my fingers over the blankets on the bed.

They are thick and made of silk.

Nothing like the bed I've had to sleep in.

I kick off my sneakers and slip under the covers.

It's so warm and comfortable.

------------------------------------------

"Aufwachen! ist es Zeit für das Abendessen ! Chef Tsunke machte das Essen! es ist sehr gut!"

I hear Arnim yelling in my ear, and I roll over.

His face is hovering right above mine. I take in the features I didn't see before, how like an ocean is eyes are; deep blue, and how his thin, blond hair stays perfect on his scalp.

"What did you say?" I ask while rubbing my eyes.

"Chef Tsunke machte das Essen." He repeats.

"Chef who?"

Rolling his eyes, Arnim pulls me from the warmth of my bed and shoves me out the door.

"Muss ich alles erklären die ganze Zeit?"

He mumbles under his breath.

I walk down the carpeted stairs, wary of how clean everything is.

I'm afraid of leaving dirty fingerprints so I don't touch anything.

"Arnim! Eldrid!"

We turn and see Aunt Gala standing in a doorway.

"It's dinner time." She says before walking back into the room.
