Facing reality

8) True lies 1

I was in darkness. It was all around me, i ran searching for light but it felt pointless because it was an endless maze. My body ached, my eyelids left heavy but that didn't stop me, i still ran. Ran with all the energy i had, thats when i heard a faint laugh.I dint have to turn to know that its Kevin, but before i could reach for him, he ran further.

" Kevin, dont run, wait for mama". I yelled.

But he dint listen. He just kept on running. I couldn't run anymore, i tried but i couldn't, i felt so desperate and helpless that i began to cry. But thats when i noticed, i was in the woods, the familiar trail of never ending trees and the smell of wilderness made it evident. As i looked around, i saw a car which was trashed into the trees. It was completely ruined but it felt strangely familiar. There was someone in the driver's seat and when i tried to look clearly, shock bolted across my body. I was terrified and confused to see a bloody version of myself inside the car. I screamed my lungs out.

"This cannot be true".

I jolted up with my eyes wide open and  white light hit me like the bright rays of the sun.

"Emily, are you okay?Can you hear me?".

I knew it was Amanda. As i turned to look at her,I noticed that we were in the hospital.

" What happened Amanda? Why am I  here?" I asked.

I felt a piercing pain across my head. It felt like I just woke up from the dead. My body was stiff and I felt weak.

" You met with an accident Emily. I don't know how much you remember,but you need to rest".

Accident. God, how could I forget? Kevin is he okay? Did they find him? The last thing i remember was him crying in the woods.

Amanda, where is Kevin?. Is he okay?" I asked concerned.

There was a look of doubt and sorrow across Amanda's face.

" Emily, lets just talk about Kevin, sometime later"

"What do you mean some time later? Is he okay? I Want to see him now".

" Emily, you need to calm down, if you don't, your health will get worse and all the medication you took so far will go to waste" she retorted.

" What do you mean so far? How long have I been here?".

" A week now. Today's 26th of September".

"Good lord, today's Kevin's birthday. I need to go see my child,Amanda".

That made her look more dreadful.

" Emily, im so sorry that I let this happen to you. Please forgive me" she pleaded.

" Amanda, you're freaking me out, please tell me that my son is okay! I want to see him, no matter what". I panicked.

She came forward,held my hands tight and looked deep into my eyes. "If you want answers, you'll have to come with me and promise me that you'll listen to me till the end".

" I always listen to you, Amanda. If you want a promise then ill give it to".

As we left the hospital, Amanda drove towards the woods.
