The following day....
"Oh my God! What happened? Was it a break in?Did you call the police? An ambulance? Anyone...!"
Shona screamed in terror staring at her father-in-law's lifeless body on the floor.
"I didn't do anything, I swear! He was alright when I left him!" Kate said crying and stammering in shock at the same time.
It was the first time they both had seen a real dead body. Their hearts were beating really fast, they were sweating and shaking uncontrollably and their faces had confusion and fear written all over.
"Did you tell......," Shona asked her mother with her face in her hands.
"No, I was just about to call an ambulance when you got in,"her mother replied but they both knew she wouldn't be able to tell his sons that their father had died on her watch.
"Did you call it then?" Kate shaked her head. "Call it,what are you waiting for then?"
She said rushing to her purse and dialling 911 as swiftly as she could. When she was done she then called Charles and George to rush to her mother's office. The boys got there just when the paramedics were announcing their father dead.
Shona started feeling light headed just as she fell on the ground. Kate ran to her and just as she grabbed her, Shona's mind sort of drifted into the past. She felt as if she was her mother. The memories were all really blurry and out of shape. But there was one she kept on seeing, one which seemed very vivid and recent.
She decided to concentrate on that one and instead of seeing that memory as her mother, she watched as if she was watching her other self. As she did that she realised that her mother was wearing the same outfit she had on that day,the hair and just everything looked the same. As she watched, she suddenly saw what had really happened in the office. She kept telling herself that it was a stupid dream, her mind being over creative.
"Shona,you alright? You scared everyone!" Her mother said still holding her in her arms with the paramedics having a quick check.
"She is fine. It was just a black out but if this has being going on for a while you need to get checked,"said the senior paramedic's assistant.
"How long was I out?"
"Not less than 5 minutes."the assistant replied turning getting ready to leave.
"Excuse me, so did he die because of a heart attack?" she said just as her mother's face tightened up.
"Yes,that's the only possible explanation now but the hospital will get in touch with everything soon,ma'am. Sorry for your loss"he replied.
"How do you know that,"her mother asked in almost a whisper.
Shona got out of her arms , looked at her mother with tears running down her cheeks just as she hugged her mother then whispered in her ears," I know what you did, mother."
Then she stood up and went to calm Charles.
