Chapter 7

Lexi screams, sliding off the windowsill into Hunter's arms.

"Shane! Julian! Don't let them go anywhere!" Seth yells as he jumps after Lexi and Hunter.

"Run Lexi!" Hunter yelled after her and when she turned around, Seth was tackling Hunter to the ground.

"Hunter!" Lexi stopped mid- step, running toward him and Seth wrestling each other.

"No! Lexi don't!"

She ignored him, running at them. Seth had Hunter pinned to the ground and when she got there, he removed him gun taking aim at her.

"Stop," he ordered.

Lexi did as she was told, but Hunter bit Seth. 

Seth pulled the trigger and the bullet pierced the skin on Lexi's arm. She fell to the ground, using her other hand to cover the wound. He got off Hunter, walking toward Lexi.

Seth said to Hunter, "Don't move or I'll kill her." Seth turned back around and Hunter stood.

He mouthed the words, "I'm going to get help" before running the opposite way.

Hunter found a police station a few miles from where Seth had kept him and Lexi.

Lexi, he thought, opening the front doors to the building.

"Hello, may I help you," the receptionist asked him.

"Can I talk to your chief?"

"Yeah, just hold on a second please," she says, picking up the phone. Into the phone she said, "Chief, there's someone who'd like to talk to you."

She waited a beat before saying, "Yeah I'll tell him" then she hung up.

she turned back to Hunter and said, "He wanted me to tell you to go to his office because he's too busy to come out here right now."

"Yeah, sure. It's the one in the back right?"

"Yep, the one overlooking the parking lot. I'll show you if you want," she said.

"No thanks," he said turning to find it.

He saw an open door, so he knocked, hoping this was the right room.

"Come in," said a voice.

Hunter walked in cautiously. "Chief?"

The man turned around in the chair. "Hunter Hayes, correct?"

Hunter nodded.

The man said, "Hi, Bec Moody." Bec extended his hand and Hunter shook it.

"I have something really important to tell you," Hunter told him.

"Let's cut to the chase, kid," Bec said, taking a sip of coffee.

"My girlfriend, Alexis was shot on the arm by her ex- boyfriend, Seth."

"Intentionally or accidentally?" the chief asked.

"Intentionally," Hunter told him.

"Do you know where?"

“About a mile or two away from here. Somewhere in the woods. He's trying to kill her."

"Okay, I'll send down Keith, my detective, and his partner, Skylar. They should be there in three minutes. Hold on tight, Hunter."

"Okay. What should I do now?" Hunter asked.

"Just wait here. I'll go get them," Bec said and left the room.

"Where'd he go?" Seth screamed.

Lexi thought he wanted an answer, but all she could do was cover her arm. The blood was pumping out profusely and if she didn't get something over soon, she might exsanguinate.

"Huh?" he yelled, just as he heard sirens. He walked over to Lexi telling her, "Get up."

She hesitated, but finally got up, following Seth further into the woods.

Skylar and Keith got out of the Squad Car, followed by Hunter, who insisted he needed to go too.

"Here?" Skylar said, flipping her bangs out of her face.

"Yeah," Hunter answered.

"There's nothing-"

"Blood," Keith said, cutting her off.
