Kiss
Joseph E. Reed

Lips that fade
That crack, that bleed
That chap, that grey
That melt away
Tongues that lie
That taste, that try
That scream and stammer
Tongues that slice
These I kiss
Sloppy lips that drip to chin
That drool and swim
Down neck and skin
That slurp and gulp and breathe
And pulse
And tongues that lap and lick
And sap and sip
And mouths that spit
These I kiss
Mouth declaring loyalties
Between bites of meats
With salad leaves between teeth
That calls for others
Just the same
That preys upon the weak and lame
That clenches jaws when under pain
That opens wide to drink the rain
That sings, throat full, of future's days
This mouth
This I kiss
Drunk with passion
Out of breath
Stupor stalking
Life from death
Cold to heat
Numb to fire
Dumb to slapped
Red hot
Perspire
Gnashing gritting
Chewing smiting
Grinning growling
Sultry scowling
Harnessed rampant fields of frowning
Smile unchallenged
Dreams undoubting
Sounds slip softly to my ears
Whisper whisper lovely dear
Let me taste those cherry reds
Kiss me sweetly till I'm dead
