Mundane Glory

Joseph E. Reed

February 20, 2015

Sometimes I hold my goals afar

So they retain their luster

I tell myself that, once attained,

They’ll soon decay and rust

Or maybe I will lose all drive

Having reached my target

I keep on shooting for the stars

And fail to walk towards it

But when my feet are earthen bound

I dance within the soil

I raise my head and eyes and hands

Exhilerating toil!

I breathe the air I have right here

I taste the life before me

And I am free, I have no bounds

My mundane life of glory!
