Chapter 3

My head was pounding. Where am I? The last thing I remember is sitting in the car with my mom.

Where is my mom?

"Mom?" I tried to speak but it came out in a whisper scream.

"Mom!" I tried again, this time louder. I looked around. The surroundings were bland. White sheets, grey chair, dingy brown curtains.

A big grey patterned curtain hung all around me. "Mr. Hemmings?" I tilted my head ever so slightly.

"Oh! You're up." They said. A man, maybe my age, maybe older, with straight, dirty blond hair poked his head in through the separation in the curtains.

"H-hi." I whispered. "Mind if I come in?" He asked cheerfully.

I nodded. He walked in the 'room'.

I worked op the guts to ask "What happened?"

"You were in a car accident." He informed me. "Oh. When?"

"It's midnight. So" he looked down at his watch,"about 8 hours ago."

"Where's my mom?"

"Your mom?"

"Liz Hemmings?"

"Liz Hemmings"

He looked at me with sullen eyes. I felt my heart stop. I could feel the tears working their way up.

"She's..in critical condition. I'm sorry." He spoke. And here came the tears. I started bawling.

The tears were rapidly running off my face. The nurse came over to me and put a hand on my thigh. There was no time for my breath to hitch at his touch. I put my face in my hands.

I looked back up a my nurse with red eyes and blurry vision. He seemed so familiar. I didn't know how.

His face was calming. His puffy cheeks. His thin lips. You could tell he had dimples. His hazel eyes. One was a little smaller than the other. His straight, dirty blond hair. Almost the color of mine. If only I knew his name...

"You okay?" He spoke.

"Oh, yeah." I sighed, wiping tears from my eyes.

"She's gonna be fine." He said, gripping my thigh a little tighter. I sucked in air.

"Oh. Sorry." He said bashfully as he pulled his hand from my thigh. He started to blush.

"Why do you look so familiar?" He asked me. I shrugged.

"Yeah, I don't know either. Well it's about time to eat. I'll get you some food, kay?"

I nodded. He got up and walked away. I got this weird fuzzy feeling when he left. I looked over my shoulder and saw my phone, plugged in, sitting on the hospital nightstand.

I picked it up. The only notifications I had were from Calum.

Where are you?
Are you okay?
Dude?
Please answer me?
OMG. I just found out what happened.
You need anything?
Well goodnight. I'll come visit you after school.

I sighed and unlocked my phone. I replied to Calum by reassuring him of of existence.

My nurse came back in. "Hey bud. Don't have your food yet. But, you are being moved to a new room." He smiled.
