16th March - Dr Brenhin's Diary
I am discouraged. My experiments have failed me for the seventh time. My hands are growing stiff and I do not have much time here. Soon they will find out and believe that I am learning black magic. Fools! Having to revive the dead is not considered as "black magic". I fear that my life may end before my work is complete. I must not stay here any longer, it is too dangerous and I am likely going to be spotted. Although, I already had been spotter. The poor errand boy saw what I was doing and before he could race out of my home and call the authorities, I grabbed hold of him and poured acidic waste into his mouth. I had no choice but to, I cannot afford to be caught and not when I am so close to what I am about to finish. I guess its too late now, soon they will wonder where the boy is, and I cannot risk staying here. I must burn the bodies and hide. They will not be able to find me, they never will, because I am entering into a different world, only one where I can continue my experiments without any hesitation and with the thought of someone watching me. I shall burn my laboratory, leave the bodies in here, take my notes, and flee into the woods where I can start anew.
6th July
For years, I have built from a shelter to a newly developed laboratory in the deepest part of the woods and a place where I can make it my home. To reveal my most inner goals, I plan to bring the dead back to life. If my theories come to reality, then the world shall see what I could do to change the world and my fame will grow. Although, staying deep within a gloomy world might not be as great as I thought it would be. I guess I have to get used to it.
23rd July
I have two bodies right now; twins who once lived in an orphanage had then grown up to live on their own, but somehow they were murdered. Apparently, their faces were mutilated, as each seemed to have missing limbs and lumps of flesh ripped from their bones. Maggots had crawled within their eyes sockets, and their skins were contaminated with a dark green colour. Each of them had one eye remaining. I dug their bodies out from their graves and dragged them all the way back here. I cannot work with them like this, yet they are so young, so perfect but at the same time, they were not.
They reminded me of my children, who no longer exist. I found their bodies lying still on my floor covered in their own blood. I did not know who did it. That was when I ran away, as I was afraid to be blamed for something I did not do. I ran before they could even find me, but I left my dead children at home, their bodies lying underneath their blankets.
How am I supposed to do this if I continue to have no energy, the power to revive them? The book of voodoo spells was not even helpful. I tried placing the bones within a circle on the floor, candles were placed on it, and I hummed some gibberish with a monotonous melody. The two bodies were laid in front of me and I continued the grim mantra. So far, there was nothing, nothing for weeks.
15th September
I've fixed up their bodies. The missing flesh were replaced with new ones, as I have no choice but to take live subjects. The lively ones, well, I had nothing else to eat but them. As I ate the extra meat that remained on my live subjects, I was enjoying it as if I was eating steak. It seems that human doesn't taste so bad. To be honest, I really enjoyed it.
Now the twins look complete, yet they still have one eye missing. It doesn't matter, I just wanted to make sure that their new limbs and organs were fitting enough to start my experiment. I have failed numerous of times, but I will continue to try if I have to.
8th October
Nothing. Nothing at all seemed to work! I've tried and tried and tried, over and over again! Why? Why won't it work? I've filled their bodies with blood, tested with an electrical shock to wake their nerves, and even carefully jammed in electrical rods in their brains. Yet, yet nothing. The books I have, they mean nothing now. Does it mean that I could no longer see them? My children?
