"hey dad" i said walking into the church's office.

"hello sydney grace" my dad said as i slumped down into a chair across from him.

"why did you want me to come here again?" i asked annoyed that i was here when i could be doing homework.

"well we have a sermon tonight, remember?" he asked me raising his eyebrows at me.

"oh yea"

"so im gonna need your help greeting new comers"

"what do you mean?" i asked.

"well we have two new families coming tonight, and i want you to show their kids around" he said standing up.

"what do you mean?" i asked for the second time.

"well one of the families that are coming have three boys around your age, luke, ben, and jack."

"luke?" i asked, "luke who?"

"i dont know, it was a kind of long name, i think something like clemmings"

"ugh you mean hemmings, dad" i said throwing my head back.

he gave me an amused look, "yea whatever it is, anyway go get dressed in something decent, and be back before 5"

"sure" i said turning on my heel and walking out of his office.
//
it was 4:30 when i got back to the church and made my way to my dads office.

"just in time sydney grace" he said standing up, "the clemmings-hemmings family should be here any minute"

"why can't I just help prepare food in the kitchen instead?"

"because sydney grace, we want the boys to feel welcomed here" he said walking out of the office, "you know how it goes".

"yea yea, 'the thing that'll motivate the families to come to church is the kids', i've heard it a million times dad" i said following him to the back of the church, where the parking lot is located.

as we walked down to the corridor we ended up running into them.

"oh hey" my dad said looking surprised that they got here on time.

"hey mr. kris" a man said holding out his hand for dad to shake.

"hello mr. hemmings" dad said shaking his hand.

while our parents where talking i glanced over at the three boys behind them.

the two tallest and im guessing oldest where on their phones, while luke was leaning against the wall smirking at me.

"follow me please" i heard dad say.

as he lead us to the sanctuary i tried my best to slip behind and go back to the office.

"watch where you're going sydney" luke said pushing my shoulder.

"w-what?" i asked.

"you heard me" he spat, he then smirked at me.

"so you're a preachers daughter huh?"

"yea, so what?" i scowled.

"whoa hold on there, don't be so feisty now, don't wanna break any of the commandments now do we?" he asked looking amused.

"shut up" i glared

instead of leaving i ended up following them.

"oh i forgot to introduce you to my daughter, this is sydney grace. and my wife should be here soon." dad said, "now we want to make sure you guys feel as welcomed as can be so here, please fill out these guest cards"

luke grabbed one and came over to me

"sydney grace, huh?"

"he can only call me that, you try and -"

"hey sydney im ben" one of the boys said walking over to me.

"bye ben" luke said annoyed

"so you and my brother know each other huh?" ben asked smirking at luke

"ben if you don't shut the h-"

"no cursing in the church lil bro" another boy said walking up to us.

luke glared at him both and walked away.

"he's not as bad of a bad boy as you think, trust us" the one who im guessing ben is said.

"oh" i replied

"yea, if you have a problem with him, let us know, we can get to him real quick" the other one said.

"alright" i said cracking a small smile, "thanks".
