"Crystal, dear, you know that sooner or later you will be wed to one of the 6 princes."
"Yes mother, I'm fully aware." I said in a sarcastic tone and smiled as my mother, Queen of The Artesian Kingdom, was once again, lecturing me, Princess of The Artesian Kingdom, about having to marry one of the princes of the six kingdoms while we were dress shopping for the ball tonight. Ugh. Marriage was definitely the last thing on my mind right now. I didn't want to be married to one of my childhood friends so that I could sit around all day and do nothing while others took care of me. Besides, I was too concerned about my duties and learning how to run a country.
Yes, I am the Crowned Princess of The Artesian Kingdom. I have an older brother, Augustus, who by tradition is supposed to take over the throne. My father, The King, knew that I was a better fit for the throne and completely disregarded tradition. Besides, Artesia was known for breaking the rules.
Lets just say that there are some people who are made for this world, and some people who are not. I am completely made for this world of modern royalty and have always loved it. On the other hand, my brother hates the fact that he is royalty. All he has ever wanted was to walk around without guards and play on the playground as a child with a friend. I loved being royal. I have the best education, the best care, the best clothes and brands, not to mention the balls and parties were elegant and scandalous at the same time, and everything was at my fingertips. I had it all.
Anyways, after my mother and I had finally gotten home from my dress fitting and getting my dress prepared, we finally arrived at the manor. Our mansion was gorgeous. It was the biggest Mansion of all of the 7 kingdoms. I returned to my room exhausted and the maids started getting me ready.
As soon as the maids were finished I thanked and dismissed them and then looked in the mirror. My dress was a turquoise mermaid gown with gems covering the bodice and gradually dispersing down the dress. I wore my long brunette hair in cascading curls, and blue crystal jewelry with gold pumps. I looked breathtaking.
The Ball...
It wasn't until 15 minutes before the ball that I had realized the time. Henry, my butler, knocked on the door.
*Knock *Knock
"Princess Crystal are you ready?"
"Yes Henry, I'm coming," I said as I walked across the room and went to open the door. When I opened the door, Henry looked at me to approve of my appearance. "You look as beautiful as always Princess," "Thank you Henry." I gently smiled and then he gave a nod before escorting me to our mansion's ballroom.
As soon as we arrived at the French doors that led to the ballroom Henry stopped and wished me well as he headed down the hall. I stood in front of those huge doors leading to the party that I was late to, as usual. I immediately opened the doors and entered, everyone became silent and turned their gazes at me. I didn't mind, matter of fact I loved the attention of the crowd focusing on me and only me. I spotted the princes, my childhood friends, and made my way over to them as the silence of the room quickly faded.
Of course, Roberto was the first one to talk to me. "Why don't you look ravishing as always, my dear," he said as he started to grin. "Roberto, wipe that look off your face, flattery wont get you anywhere." I said with I smile. The princes all started to laugh as Roberto's smile faded and a slight blush took over his face. The music started playing and all of the princes already knew not to ask me to dance because I would only say no. Of course it went against tradition to say no, but it didn't really matter if the person was of a lesser or equal noble ranking as you. The princes were princes, yes, and I was a princess. But, since I'm from a country that is far larger, and richer than any of theirs, that naturally puts me at a higher ranking than them. Anyways I never liked to dance with any of them because for some reason I had this weird feeling that if I danced with the princes, they would think that they were better than I was. I've known them my whole life, and I know exactly how these guys think.
