You laid on your boring Earth bed, staring at your boring earth ceiling. It had been weeks. Weeks since your last adventure. Weeks since you'd seen the Doctor. Weeks of boring, boring normal, human, stuff. You were going up the wall. You would've easily believed the Doctor just set the date wrong on the TARDIS if it wasn't for the fact that he had sent you a text message seconds after you were dropped off last time.
I'll be a while, Ms. Emotional. Stay safe. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Aside from the adorable over usage of "kisses", the text worried you. I mean, he has a time machine, why would he be late? Unless it was intentional. Which would suck and make no sense. You were scared, that was for sure. Was the Doctor the type to never come back? And not mention anything was wrong? It didn't seem too far from the truth. But I mean, this was the Doctor. He wouldn't do that, right? Not to you.
You realized the idea you had just formed and smacked yourself. Hard.
You were no different from the Doctor's other companions. You knew that. Though lately you had to continuously remind yourself of it. You wanted to feel special, being human and all, but you always reminded yourself of the other amazing people the Doctor had taken with him before, and how they each were incredible and had as a complex run as you did. Well, are. Hopefully.
The idea was already gnawing deep in your brain. You've been abandoned.
You smacked the idea back into your subconscious and threw yourself out of bed. Your room was bigger than not, and tidy, save for all the clothes on the floor and the blanket you'd just kicked off the bed. So, you know, not tidy. You had a giant window looking over your front yard from your bedroom on the second floor.
You know those houses where the upstairs is just one room? That was your house.
You stood in front of your mirror and looked at your drained face. You needed a hobby. A job, even. Ever since the Doctor had started paying you to help clean up and repair the TARDIS you had been leaving the house less and less.
The doorbell rang.
You froze, chest swelling. You swallowed your hope and skipped down the steps and to the door.
It was River. River Song. The River you kind of hate. That River.
"Good, you're here. Can you lift the Doctor's weight?"
You blinked at her. "What?"
"The Doctor! Can you lift him?!" She yelled, suddenly very urgent about something.
"Wha- Maybe?"
"Okay, we'll work together- come here!" She yelped, spinning around and hurrying to the TARDIS behind her. You skidded after her.
"River! What is going on? What are doing here?!"
As you entered the TARDIS you saw the Doctor, unconscious on the floor. River turned to look at you.
"We need to get him inside."
"Isn't he safer in here?" She shook her head.
"You're just going to have to trust me. Now, help me pick him up."
You followed her over to him and reached down grabbing his legs, River slipping her arms underneath his shoulders.
You eventually got him in your house and on the couch, hitting him on things only minimal times.
You both dropped him on the couch he let out a groan.
River looked at you.
"He's going to wake up soon. There's something you need to know before he does."
He let out inaudible speaking and yelling. Too late. River spun around to face him.
"Sweetie?" She called, crouching next to him. He opened one eye.
"River?" He looked up at her, then turned to you. "Who are you?" His eyebrows furrowed.
You blinked at him, glancing at River, who didn't look surprised.
"What do you mean? It's me. It's- Ms. Emotional...?" He looked more confused by the second.
"Ms. Emotional?" He scrunched up his nose. "Hell, it's your name."
"You- you don't remember me, River why doesn't he remember me?"
She looked up at you, guilt covering her face.
"Something happened," She said simply. The Doctor watched you closely as you deflated. She wasn't going to tell you anything else.
You dragged your eyes back up to him. His eyes didn't hold the same knowing that you had seen before. A care for you that had shown on his face was gone, and you didn't even know it had existed until now.
"Well, if I've forgotten you, who are you?"
"... I'm your companion. Current companion, I-I meant current companion."
As you watched his face turn to dread, you sunk back into his favorite arm chair. It was big, and practically swallowed up half of you when you sat in it. He was always on it whenever he visited you. Somehow it made you feel like none of this was real, like you were safe from the possibility reality was done being nice to you. Not that he knew that.
"What's your name?" The Doctor asked after awhile.
You answered him, staring at nothing, hugging yourself.
River started talking to him then. Something gushy that probably would've made you throw up if you were listening, but you were too busy staring at a random spot on the wall.
"River?" You spoke up. She turned to look at you. "Can I talk to you? In private?"
She looked at the Doctor then followed you to the kitchen where the Doctor wouldn't be able to hear you.
"Can we fix him?"
She looked back to him, affection on her face. "I don't know. But he can't stay here. He can't just sit and wait for things to come back."
You looked up her, anger burning behind your eyes.
"I'm not just going to sit back and let you take him. You realize that don't you?"
"Yes, but for right now, we don't have a choice."
"I don't have a choice. That's what you mean, right? You're making him choose when he can't even remember the choice? You don't like me so you're taking him?"
"I didn't say that-"
"Was it you? That wiped his memory?"
"No. Of course not, but we need to do something. You can't just expect him to wait for you-"
"I don't. But it seems a little rigged when he can't even remember me to make his choice for himself."
She was quiet for awhile. "We need to go."
You fought every urge in your body to grab her by the collar of her shirt and either yell at the top of your lungs or beg her not to take him. Instead you just deflated and let her walk right past.
You didn't look at them as you heard River drag him out the door.A week later
You were curled up in the Doctor's chair, a giant blanket wrapped around you, like a fluffy cocoon. The chair (and couch) faced the TV, their back to the openly attached kitchen. You had pandora on the TV and blaring your favorite music, but it didn't help.
You would need to get a job soon. Something you very much didn't want to do, but you needed to face the facts.1. The Doctor was gone.
2. You were alone.
3. Your life was over.Lovely.
It was at that moment that your doorbell rang. Four times. It was followed by someone knocking repeatedly on your door.
You managed to lug yourself from the Doctor's chair and shuffle to the door before the person on the other side broke it down.
You swung it open and froze.
"Hello!" The Doctor said. "I don't remember you, before you ask. Can I come in?"
"Uhh, s-sure." You stepped aside as he slid past you.
You followed him into the living room and watched as he subconsciously sat down in his chair. He met your gaze.
"What?"
"You love that chair, I mean you practically called dibs." You sat down criss-cross on the coffee table in front of it.
"I'm not surprised, it's very soft," He said, nonchalantly glancing around.
"What are you doing here?"
He looked at you. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"You don't even know who I am, Doctor."
"No no no, I know some things!"
"Like what?"
"I know that I call you Ms. Emotionless-"
"Emotional-"
"Right, thank you. I know what your room looks like, it's very nice by the way."
"You found my room?"
"More like the TARDIS forced it upon me. I saw that picture of the both of us. The one on your desk."
"Okay, go on. What else do you know?"
"I know you gave me this-" He paused to pull out a small blue box. He lifted off the lid and pulled out the rainglobe you had given him for Christmas.
"You're such a tard, you never took it out of the box," You smiled, reaching for it. The Doctor placed it gently in your hand. You lightly shook it and watched the rain against the mini swing set. When you looked up you realized the Doctor had been staring at you. You handed it back to him.
"So why are you here?"
"I came to remember you."
"W-What?"
"Well there must be some way to remember! Out of all the little things I remember, the most distracting one is that I care about you."
"Well what's the plan?"
"Well how am I supposed to know?"
You pinched the bridge of your nose.
"Lovely."(IDIDITIDIDITIDIDIT FINALLY I DID IT. IT TOOK ME FOREVER MY GOD. So yeah this is the first two-parter chapter :D.
