The pool was giant and circular, filled to the brim with cooling blue water. Overhead was a simulation of the night sky. The air was chilly to match, but all it did was send your nerves alight. The pool casted gentle blue light under your chin, and your hair was soaking. Goosebumps covered your skin. You were alone, but it had been a few minutes since the Doctor had passed by in the corridor. He'd smiled proudly at you before scurrying off. You figured it wouldn't be long before he joined you.
You smiled at the thought, and submerged to avoid giggling in the silence of the empty room.
You were only under the water for a second, your eyes squeezed shut, before you heard the muffled sound of someone canon balling into the water.
You gasped, and water invaded your throat. In an instant you were above water again, coughing.
You forced your eyes open, just in time to see the Doctor resurface and spin to face you. His hair was soaking wet, and his chest was bare. You could see dark swimming trunks under the water.
You gave your chest a few pats as you coughed up the last of the water. The Doctor waded towards you, pushing his hair up and out of his face. "I'm so, so, sorry!" He stopped in front of you as you cleared your throat, placing a hand against your bicep. "Are you alright? I didn't mean to startle you, Ms. Emotional."
You swallowed to soothe your throat, but waved the thought away with your hand. "I'm fine, I'm fine." You peered into his eyes and smiled. "I didn't peg you for a swimmer, Doctor."
"Well, of course I swim! It's my pool!"
You giggled before casting your gaze to the "night sky" over head. "One Hell of a pool."
Doc brightened. "I'm glad you like it, it changes a bit with every regeneration, like the console. I like this one the best."
"Well wasn't it made specifically for you? Just like the console room was?"
"Yes, well, that's besides the point."
You gave another bright laugh, your gaze down at the water. When you turned back to him, he was smiling, but it was a different smile than you were used to. There was something... deeper... about it, something you couldn't place. You figured he was just worried about you again.
"What?" You nodded towards him with a smirk.
The Doctor bristled. "Nothing, nothing... so what about you? Do you like the local watering hole?"
"That's what we're calling the pool now, huh?" He hummed in response. "Ah. Well," You paused to gaze at the sky. "... I think it's beautiful."
He followed your gaze. "Yes. I suppose it is."
The two of you met eyes and you gave a lopsided smile. You broke the moment by jostling him with a tiny splash.
"Oi! No splashing! Didn't you read the sign?"
You glanced around smugly. "There's no sign in here."
"What?" Doc glanced around for himself. "There used to be! I think there used to be..."
You found yourself tittering again.
