A lantern lit the way for a courageous soul, for each room of the manor to be explored in turn.

A shriek.

A shatter.

The light extinguished forever.

Howling wind rattled the attic's windowpanes from inside, blasting them wide open. Curtains of ripped silk billowed out, opaque folds overlapping and rolling away.

Rivulets of blood spilled over the windowsill, and began to trickle down the weathered wall.

It bled from one uneven brick to the next with a purpose, pulsating with malicious dark magic.

After a garbled scream, more blood cascaded over the windowsill.

One curious sound stood out against the shrieking winds. It sounded like wet, thick cardboard being torn apart.

A stringy mangle of flesh splashed into the pond below, spraying algae-coloured water up towards the bleak skies.

Dark water rushed over itself, separating the floating gore. The remains stayed adrift. Then, they sank, lower, and lower still, until swallowed up by the murky depths.

Blood pooled at the manor's edge, oozing downwards and seeping into the reddish pond; infecting the unsteady waters with a steady plume of vile vermillion.

The wet, rust-coloured trails left behind a message on the old stone wall.
