Matthew's life felt empty. Sure, he had his pet polar bear, Kumajiro, and his big brother, Francis. But he still felt lonely. He was walking through the streets of Toronto, trying to clear his head. As he passed an alleyway, he heard something.
"H-Hello, is a-anyone there?" Canada asked quietly. Behind a dumpster, peeked out a (color)-haired girl, (color) eyes wide with fear. Her clothes were torn and dirty, hair was tangled and matted, and she looked like she hadn't took a bath in months. When she saw Canada was standing there, she yelped and ducked back behind the dumpster. "N-No, please c-come back out. I-I'm not going to hurt you." Canada quietly pleaded.
She peeped her head back out, still shivering with fear. "H-Hello mister, please d-don't take m-me back." She managed to say. Canada looked back at her, confused. "T-Take you back w-where, maple?" He said. She walked up closer to him." The orphanage",she said,"all the bigger kids pick on me, and they don't give me any food. I don't want to go back." She hugged Canada's pant leg and cried into it. "It's ok maple, I won't take you back, ma chere ." Canada said, patting her head.
She looked up, (color) eyes wide with happiness. "Really?!?!" She exclaimed. Canada reached down and picked her up." What's your name, maple?" Canada asked. She reached up and hugged Canada's neck. "It's (name)." She answered. Canada adjusted his jacket so it would fit around (name)."Okay, l-let's hurry up and g-get home. I-It looks like it's about to snow." Canada said, walking home.
