Newt had found that time passed quickly in the Glade. Soon enough his first day had ended, and suddenly, it had been a full week since his arrival. Alby, who was first in command of the group of boys, stuck by him every day, making sure Newt knew where he was, and how he could get around. Newt was slightly annoyed by Alby's constant worry, but he understood why. Although, he still was in the dark about where exactly he was.

"Alby," Newt says, clearing his voice, "could you describe the Glade?"

The boy next to him frowns, and he opens his mouth, but no words come out. "U-Uh, it's not really that interesting."

"But I want to know what this place is like."

Another boy speaks, his voice is low and quiet. Newt recognizes it instantly - its Minho. "Dude, we can't keep it from him forever, we gotta tell him."

Newt is now the one that frowns, and he asks carefully. "What are you hiding from me?"

It goes quiet for a while. The fire in front of them is roaring, filling the silence. It doesn't last long, as Minho nudges Alby with his elbow.

Alby sighs, sitting up. "The Glade is protected by four large walls, the place itself is small. It's pretty much what I've shown you, y'know, we've got the box, the homestead, the gardens and all that. Well, outside of those walls, is a whole new story."

"What's out there?"

Alby shoots Minho a nervous glance, one that goes unseen by Newt. Minho nods, slowly in response. He looks back at the blonde boy sitting, his cloudy eyes staring straight in front of them.

"The Maze."

The boy behind the screen finds that time passed by extremely slowly. Eventually the first day is over, and it feels like it takes longer for a week to pass by. Even though the time was torturous, the boy watches the screen, everyday. He's filled with worry constantly, and his colleagues watch him, confused, giving him odd looks from time to time.

Suddenly, it's been a year, and he's still watching that stupid screen, heart shredding everyday as he watches that same boy. But he doesn't stop. He watches him laugh, he watches him with his friends, and he even watches him cry himself to sleep, every single night.

Even though it's killing him, he watches.

Because he would do anything to protect this boy.

But what he doesn't know, is that there are much bigger things than the safety of this boy that he needs to worry about. Much bigger things.

Because one day, he doesn't turn up.

And that one day, turns into a year.
