The walls close shut, causing a gush of air to blow in Newt's face. He's feels gutted, as if the lungs in his chest has closed shut just like the walls of the Maze. He brings his hand forward, swinging it just like he had seconds before, but he doesn't feel the fabric of Thomas's shirt but the cold hard stone of the Maze. He takes a breath, in and out. In and out. Newt doesn't know of Gods and religion, but he prays that somehow, the three out there would get out alive. He knows what he's told Thomas, and many green beans before, but now, he's asking the same questions as they all had, and he's letting himself hope.

He feels a stick being pushed into his other hand. It's the cane that he's dropped during his attempt to pull Thomas back. Newt mutters a quick thanks to whoever had handed it back, bringing his right hand down from the wall and switching the cane to it. He turns around, swaying his cane as he did.

"What a shucking idiot," Gally explodes, "Not only have we lost two, but three people, because that Thomas has a death wish!"

Newt bites his lip angrily. "Oh will you just shut your bloody mouth, Gally. At least Thomas had the bloody courage to do something. Minho needed someone out there to help him, and unlike you, he's brave enough to risk his life to do it."

Gally is taken aback by Newt's outrage; but it doesn't stop him from spitting back at him. "You of all people know how dangerous that place is, Minho and Alby won't survive the night, without that slinthead's help."

Newt rolls his eyes. "Don't even go there." He threatens, voice turning into sharp ice. He walks past Gally, or at least attempt to, as he hears the boy's footsteps following him.

"What's your deal with this guy anyway?" Gally snarls, "Why you being like this?"

The blind boy stops, hand gripping his cane tight, feeling his knuckles turn white. "Like what?"

Gally scoffs. "Oh you know what I mean, Newt. You're being all protective over this guy you barely know."

Newt spins around, hot headed and now boiling with anger. "I'm being protective? You're the one to talk. Ever since I've been here you've been suffocating me. Don't you think I notice what you've been doing? I can hear you ordering people to be around me all times, or your attempts to ask Alby to remove me from second in command because you don't think I can 'handle it'. I may be blind, but I'm not stupid. I can take care of myself."

"I'm just trying to make sure you're okay." Gally sighs, hands on his side curling into tight fists.

"I didn't ask you to!" Newt shouts, "Just leave me alone."

"Newt, you have to listen to me," he heard the boy next to him whisper, "Something isn't right here, haven't you noticed it?"

Newt frowned, keeping his gaze forward. "I don't know what you're talking about. All I know is that these people here are saving us and the rest of the world from the disease, and we're helping with the cure. I don't see how any of that is wrong."

"Look, I know what I'm saying and asking you to do is big, but please, you trust me right?" The boy pleaded.

The blonde boy shook his head. "I trust you but, I just can't, T-"

Suddenly, a large noise is made by the door. Newt turns his head round to see that several armed guards had forcefully shoved the door open. He glances back to the boy, with a frown. "What did you do?" He whispered solemnly.

From the crowd of guards, a woman, dressed in white emerged. She has a tired look on her face but alongside it is a stern frown fueled with nothing but anger. She glanced first at the boy next to Newt, and then back at him, before pointing straight towards the blonde boy. Newt trembled in fear when he heard her cold, sharp voice commanding the guards. "Take him."

He felt a jolt of fear spark in every nerve of his body and before Newt could run, he's grabbed strongly by the guards and forced out of the room. He turns his head round to the boy, and felt his eyes rim with tears when he saw what the boy mouthed as Newt was taken away.

"I'm sorry."

And just as Newt slumped down in fear as the group walked him down the corridor, his heart stopped when he heard the same cold, sharp voice talking to the boy from the room. "And don't think I don't know what you're planning, in fact, I may have to punish you for the tricks you've been playing."

Newt gasps when he regains consciousness, but he doesn't have a single second to understand what he's just been through as the feelings of worry and anxiety about Thomas, Minho, and Alby crash into him like a flood. He feels as if someone has knocked the air out of his lungs. He's restless. He could hear his heart beating in his ears and the rustling of the grass underneath his feet as he paces forwards and then back again.

"I'm going absolutely bloody mental." Newt breathes out.

He knows the boy in his flashbacks. He knows the voice, but he just couldn't understand what that meant. Newt decides to stop his pacing and sit down once he finds his usual resting place by using his cane. He sighs as soon as his back hits the side of the trunk and wishes that there was some kind of sign that would let everything Newt's ever known, make sense.

And just as Newt manages to calm himself down, a shiver is sent down his spine as his mind decides to recall another small memory. It's the voice again, not the cold, sharp one, but the warm, and soft voice that belongs to the boy of his flashbacks. He doesn't see what's happening, his mind only allows him three words.

But that's all Newt needs.
