She kicked and thrusted and swam but she just couldn't make it to the surface. She could feel the water filling her lungs as she could see the dock perched on its tall rocks so tantalizingly close, the ripples of water clouding her vision, and then everything went black.

Dawn Adalin woke with a start. She had this dream so constantly, it was entirely draining. Her limbs felt sore as if her struggle to swim had just happened. Her head sore from where she hit the dock, but those bruises healed ages ago. Her mother walked in and turned on the light.

"Is everything alright dear?"

Her eyes adjusted to the bright light. "yeah mom i'm fine, just the dream again.."

"again?do you think we need to put a stop the the sleep meds?do you think there the cause of it?"

"No."she said plainly. "there the only things that get me to sleep. But its just so strange..even when I do sleep,it doesn't quite feel like im sleeping..does that make sense?"

She looked up at her mom, running her fingers through her own long think charcoal black hair. The spiral curls catching her fingers and resisting release. Her mom looked at her questioningly and pursed her lip.

"maybe its just an effect of the accident dear."Her mother said brushing Dawns hair out of her face.

She starred at her with her pale blue eyes. Dawns eyes were much like her mothers, Dawns just rounder and more live like, while her mothers always looked kind of..distant.and cold. She loved her mother dearly, but that was the truth, it was just the way she looked.

"your probably right." Dawn said sleepily.

"I know I am."Her mother said lightheartedly."now try and get some sleep."She continued and she walked towards the door.

 "Mum?" Dawn asked.

Her mother turned her head to show she was listening. "How do you always know when I wake up in the middle of the night? Like, when something wrong?"

Her mother just smiled for a moment and then replied."Just mothers instinct I guess, sweet dreams."
