‘You are in a deep, deep sleep and will never wake up.’ Brad said waving a dirty sock above my head.
‘You’re doing it wrong!’ Ben said coming over to correct his twin.
‘That’s what the guy in the movie said!’ Brad said defensively.
‘No, he didn’t! Who’s the smarter one here?’ Ben howled.
I got a whiff of the nasty smelling gym sock and immediately shot up from under the covers.
Brad was so frightened he bounced off my bed and landed on the floor. My bed was on large stands, and reached the roof. Almost.
‘What are you two doing in my bedroom, waving a dirty sock over my head?’ I demanded, scowling at my brothers.
‘We were trying to hypnotize you,’ Brad said sheepishly.
‘But, Brad was doing it wrong. I told you to let me do it.’ Ben said, slapping Brad on the head.
‘What time is it?’ I asked warily. I was pretty sure that it was Friday. A school day.
I looked over at my bedside clock, and was alarmed to see that it was seven thirty.
‘Don’t you see the time? How could you two still be fooling around?’ I said rolling out of bed.
I howled in pain. I forgot about my stupid ankle. I didn’t change the bandages since yesterday.
They fell off in the middle of the night, exposing my dark purple bruises.
‘Wow, what happened there?’ Brad asked looking at the open wounds.
‘I fell at school,’ I muttered.
I opened my closet door, and started looking for something loose. I decided to go for a bright orange dress that had yellow daisies on the skirt part.
I put on my brown ankle cowboy boots brushed my hair into a French plait and then went to the bathroom.
I brushed my teeth in a hurry, but made sure that there were no traces of food.
I took off my boots and opened the bathroom cupboards, raiding for bandages and Dettol.
I soon found some and applied it to my ankles, before doing so I made sure that I cleaned my ankles properly with water.
I adjusted the bandages and clipped it with a pin.
Next, I finally went downstairs for breakfast. I was starving.
‘Jasmine.’ I smiled.
‘You finally come down the stairs no? I was worrying.’ She said taking a seat.
I realized that she hadn’t cooked any breakfast, so I hurriedly took out a bowl and threw some milk and cereal in it. Apparently Ben and Brad had eaten already because they came coyly downstairs with their schoolbags on their backs with innocent smiles on their faces.
‘Could you please hurry dear sister? We don’t want to be late.’ They said in unison.
I scowled at them, but Jasmine saw.
‘Pull your face right, Marney.’ She said and then picked my bowl up and rinsed it.
We packed into the car, hurrying to school.
‘Here is money for your lunch.’ Jasmine said handing me a 20 dollar bill, as usual.
I thanked her, and hurried into the gates.
Students were breaking up and hurrying off to class. The morning assembly was over. Well at least I missed that.
I had Home Economics first period.
