Omniscient POV
"Wendi, I'm going on break. Y'all want me to bring y'all back something?", one of Lia's fellow co-workers asked. "No, thank you. I'll see you later." This was not how a eighteen year old Lia thought her Friday night would be, working the night shift at her job at TGI Friday's. With only her, Wendi and one other girl as waitress her night was going to be long and tiring.Soon, she heard the loud voices of guys come through the door. She hoped she wouldn't have to serve them. She felt annoyed already by their loudness. She looked around before realizing she was the only waitress left, Wendi had her own customers and Ricki had just went on break. She had to serve the rowdy guys.
"Hello, welcome to TGI Friday's. I'm Liana, and I'll be your waitress today. Would you like to place your orders for drinks?", she asked with her signature smile. She quickly recognized two of guys as some graduates from her high school.
"Lemme get you in my cup", a nineteen year old Quentin said. He was high, after smoking four blunts back to back, and had the munchies like no other. Staring at the young woman in front of him he knew her body was on point regardless of the uniform she had on. He wanted her no doubt.
"I'm sorry, but I'm no longer available on the drink selection. Would you prefer Sweet Tea?", Q smiled a huge grin showing off his teeth. He nodded and agreed with her. Quickly she jotted down the rest of the groups order. He watched their waitress walk away, he turned back to his best friend and brothers as they all laughed at him. "Nigga, is you sprung already?", his brother, Quay joked.
"You sprung but you ain't even got the pvssy yet! How that work?", Quez asked. They picked almost crying from laughter.
"Shut y'all bitch asses up! I know her from somewhere, man.", he said laughing along with them. Soon Lia returned with their drinks and got their order.Once a couple of hours, six orders of appetizers, and 14 meals the guys were getting ready to go. Lia went over to the table to clean it off, and hopefully collect a tip, only to find Q sitting there alone. "Aye, Liana. Lemme talk to you for a second."
"Yes?", she asked wondering why he stayed behind. What possibly could he want to talk about?– she thought. "My bad, I'm Q. Anyway, I'ma leave you alone as soon as you agree to give me your number."
"No thank you, it's nice meeting you though.", he watching her get up and walk into the kitchen. Another large smile came across his face, he left a hefty tip of $150. He knew he had to have her.Summer, 2011
"No, I'm not babysitting. Mama, I don't have kids, they aren't my responsibility! I ain't watching them!", Lia yelled at her mother, Naomi. Since her sister left home, leaving 3-year-old Jai and 1-year-old Myamee, Lia and Naomi argued until her father, Langston came home and resolved the issue.
"I don't care, Liana. You are not leaving this house, you are going to stay here and watch the kids. I don't know what has got into you, but you are not going to disrespect me. So get your ass upstairs!"
"I'm not disrespecting you. I'll see you when I get home, I guess.", Lia said as she quickly brushed passed her mother and out the house.
"Liana Kandyse Williams! You get your ass back in this house! I'm not playing with you! Since you been with Kendall's son you been thinking you grown! You fuck around here and get a baby, I'm not going to raise it!", Naomi yelled. Lia stared at her mother in confusion.
"I'm not even messing with Q like that. If I did end up with a baby I promise you won't ever have to worry about keeping it."
"I don't even know where I went wrong with you. I'm trying to keep you from being me. This isn't the life I wanted. You think I wanted to be stuck in Georgia, huh? You think I wanted to be a mother to y'all? That I wanted to be a grandmother? Hm, you're not going to ruin me more than you and your sister already has. Because you know what, neither of you will ever live to be anything. Langston has given everything to you and her that y'all don't know how to be anything but dependent on a man. Especially you. But you know what you'll never be. You know what get out. Get all your shit and get out."
Tears slid down Liana's face as she looked at her mother with shock. She couldn't believe it, it was surreal.
"Fine, I'll go. As much as you pretend to be oh-so-perfect, I know your skeletons are eventually coming out of the closet and I hope it all destroys you.", retreating back to her room to collect her belongs. Picking up her phone she texted Quentin. They'd exchanged numbers only because he came to the restaurant everyday for two and a half weeks
Quentin snapped awake as he heard his phone buzz. He had been out all night dealing with some bullshxt and he was tired. He looked at his illuminated screen to see several messages from his friends but one from Lia.
