XII | Love Is A Losing Game

|°| For you I was a flame, love is a losing game. Five story fire as you came, love is a losing game. One I wish I never played, oh what a mess we made, and now the final frame. Love is a losing game, played out by the band. Love is a losing hand, more than I could stand. Love is a losing hand, self professed, profound, 'til the chips were down. Know you're a gambling man. Love is a losing hand and though I batted blind. Love is a fate resigned, memories mar my mind. Love is a fate resigned. Over futile odds and laughed at by the gods, and now the final frame. Love is a losing game |°|

Liana Kandyse Williams POV

"Why didn't you become an event organizer? Because this looks amazing!", Kelsi let out. I laughed at her. "I ordered it so long ago. I knew this was probably the last time I would pick the theme of their birthday party, so I took it back to their very first party.", I said remembering the baby shower. My mind started to wonder to the night, until I quickly pulled myself out of it. The reminiscent behavior I had lately was starting to annoy me. Our marriage was over, we were at odds with each other and even worse, our children's home was destroyed.
"Ma! Ma!", I heard. I went up to the nursery and sure enough Chance was trying to climb out his crib and Chase was about to hit the floor.
"What are you two doing?", I said looking at them in amazement. Today was their 1st birthday and they acted more like they were turning three.
"Ma!", they both let out high-pitched screams.
"I hear y'all. Happy Birthday Mama's babies.", scooped Chase down from the edge of the crib and hoisted him on my hip. Then I picked Chance up and put him on my other hip and started down stairs.
"Go to TeTe, okay? Go find TeTe.", I put them down and surprisingly they actually went to find her. I went into the kitchen to fix them something to eat.
Lord, please keep the drama away for the sake of the boys. Don't allow any hostility that we adults hold come to ruin their day. Amen.

"Lia, where you want us to put the gift?", Quez asked. I threw him a strange look.
"The gift? What did y'all buy?", I questioned. I already had to decline the gifts of strippers from their ever-so-brilliant uncles.
He smacked his teeth at me, "It's one year old appropriate, Monica!" I had been dealing with the names every since he saw my haircut. I smiled and pointed over to the table I had arranged.
I watched as several family members filed in to place down presents and greet the boys. I found myself looking for Quentin, as the father you would think he could show up on time.
"Liana, I believe it's time for Jelly and Fat-Man nap.", my dad said bringing my crying twins to me.
"It can't be time they just woke up from a nap. People must've been surrounding them?", I asked. My dad nodded his head and I got my whining babies. Once I got them in my arms the whining and crying stopped and small smiles came on their chubby faces.
I let out a chuckle and cooed to them, "There wasn't anything wrong with y'all, just wanted to be under me."
"Babygirl, where's Quentin? This is his sons first party he should've been the first one here.", my dad scolded. I sat Chase and Chance down, "I know Dad, I think he's on the way. He should be at least."

Quentin Rashaad Harris POV

"Where the hell are you at Rashaad?! Damnit, you know today is your sons first birthday! If you don't get to this party, you better pray Grady ER can get my foot out your ass!", I heard the voicemail my mother left on my phone. I laughed it off and took another sip of the Hennessy I had beside me. I got up from the sofa and went into the junky bedroom to spray some cologne and rinse my mouth out to disguise the smell of weed and alcohol I had on me. I was dressed in my fit already, my intentions were to leave early, but things change. I
grabbed my car keys and left out the apartment, if you could call it that. I got in my truck and checked the back to make sure I still had the boys custom BMW's in the back.
"Shit! Where the fvck are the damn eyedrops?", I exclaimed. I didn't have time to argue with Lia about hitting a blunt in my free time. I started my way back to our home.

I couldn't lie, I missed my family. I missed the slobbery kisses the boys gave, the way they called my name for no reason, and even they're little whines when they couldn't have their way. I missed seeing and making Lia smile, I miss the way her body molded to mine so perfectly, and I missed the passionate love we had. Lately, all I had was horrible head and quick fvcks. Reaching over to the passenger seat I scooped up my bottle of Henny. As of lately, that had been my family and it was a pretty good comforter, listener even.
🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄
I walked into the party, late by an hour and a half and slightly buzzed.
I saw this short haired, thick woman, who was lowkey matching me, standing looking at the table of gifts.
"Yo, where the birthday boys at, witcho thick ass!", I said goofily. Immediately the girl turned, and to my surprise it was Lia.
"Q?! Where have you been?"
"Hey Lia! I missed you, baby.", I slipped my arms around her waist and put my face in the crook of her neck. I felt her tense up, "What you so tense for? You knew I was coming home. Your damn side nigga must be here?", I drew back to look at her face.
"Quentin, stop. Go on to the living room and see your sons. Who you haven't checked on since you left. Don't come in here trying to put me in my place, when you haven't been a good father to your boys."
I grabbed her face, and turned her head towards mine. "Why you always wanna start with me? You must need some of Daddy's pipe?" I swooped my head down to capture her lips. Right before they touched she snatched away. "Leave me be, Quentin. You walked out on us, you don't want me anymore. RaNeisha has your heart, not me, not your sons.", I heard the hurt in her voice, I could see the pain in her eyes. "I think it's best if you just go see the boys."
I watched as she blinked back tears and snatched softly away from me. I watched her retreated toward the living room. Shaking my head, I headed toward the cabinets to find something strong to drink. This was gonna be a long day.

Liana Kandyse Williams POV

I missed him. I missed his touch, scent, embrace, even his voice. This was a losing battle, am I truly ready to give up my marriage?

"Y'all I'm getting ready to get the cakes. C'mon in the kitchen!" I grabbed Fat-Man and Kendal got Jelly. I heard the people gasp when they saw Q in the kitchen standing beside the three cakes.
"Da! Da!", the boys whined trying to get out of our arms. I gave the okay to place them down and immediately they ran over to their father. "Could you put them in their high chairs for me?", I asked Q. I took their smash cakes out of the boxes and picked up the towels I had. After the cake party was over because I knew it was gonna be a mess.
I put two number 1 candles on them and Q produced a lighter to light them.
"Happy Birthday to y'all. Happy Birthday to y'all. Happy Birthday Chase and Chance! Happy Birthday to y'all?", me and Q helped blow out the candles and we gave the boys their smash cakes and cake flew everywhere. In their hair, all over their clothes shoes and icing was all over their bodies. These two little boys kept joy in my heart.
