"Emory Elizabeth Andrews! Wake up!"
Wait, I knew that voice.
"It still amazes me how much she can sleep through."
I know that voice too.
"You'd think that after fifty-some years you'd be used to it. I was used to it after sixteen."
"Well, Waverly, you didn't have to deal with a grouchy wife. When she wasn't happy, no one was."
"Trust me, Sean, I could tell from clear up here."
I slowly peeled my eyes open, blinking as the bright light shocked my sensitive sight.
"Oh, look, there she is!" Waverly squealed. "Let's see those pretty eyes."
With one final blink, I was able to fully open my eyes. There in front of me stood my two very best friends. I began blinking again, this time trying to get rid of the tears forming. What were they doing here?
"More like you joined our party," Waverly informed me, showing that I had voiced my question aloud.
"What?" I asked.
"You're with us. In heaven, the other side, the afterlife, whatever you want to call it, you're in it. Sean and I are you're welcoming committee." She lowered her voice and came closer. "We've gotten to know each other since he joined me up here. He's a great catch, I knew I made a good choice pairing you two up."
I grinned at her. "I missed you."
She smiled, wrapping me up in a hug which I easily returned. "You have no idea how boring it was up here without you. You know how in religion class they always talked about how great heaven will be? They have no clue. I mean, it's great, it caters to all your needs. In every way you can imagine it's perfect. But perfection means nothing without the ones you love."
"That has to be the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
"You say that about every nice thing that I've ever said to you."
"Okay, enough chit chat, let me see the love of my life," Sean interrupted, wrapping me in his arms.
"I missed you like crazy," I whispered."I missed you, too, babe. And look at me, I'm younger and even hotter than when you last saw me."
I rolled my eyes. "You're crazy."
"You still look as beautiful as ever."
"Okay, enough mushy crap," Waverly demanded, in the same tone as Sean had.
"We're going to have to share her. Since I had less time with her, I get her first."
"What? That's not fair."
"We can share," I interjected. "I need you both right now."
Sean pulled me back into his arms while Waverly held my hand. I closed my eyes and rested against Sean's chest, happy to have them with me again.
"I'm sorry that I left you behind," Waverly whispered.
"Don't worry, I'm no longer behind you anymore, I'm with you," I reassured her.
"What would I do without you, Em?"
