Dear Reader,
Before you start reading this chapter, I just want to explain the sequence of the story. When I introduced Maine's POV, I actually jumped the setting weeks after Alden read Maine's note for him. This may come off as confusing to you so I just want to clear that up. On with the story.
"I need a boyfriend."
"You need a WHAT?!" Patricia shrieked. "Did I hear you right? A b-boyfriend?""
"Yes." She whispered.
"Why?" Her friend asked. "I mean, okay fine, we want romance in our lives but why all of a sudden? This is terrifically out of the blue kind of thingy."
"I know but my reason is valid, Patty." Maine started to explain.
"Go on, I'm listening."
So for the past ten minutes, Maine retold what happened a month or so ago with her grandma's early morning call.
"I can't believe this." Patty laughed. "This is like a movie, friend! Who could have thought that you would be so unlucky?"
"Not funny," she pouted. "So are you going to help me? I need a boyfriend by the end of the week or else I'm doomed."
"Doomed is too heavy for a word to use." Her friend said. "More like, It's-2012-for-me would be suitable for you."
"Why am I friends with you?"
"I don't know." Patty laughed. "Do you?"
"Not really." Both of them laughed.
"Don't worry Maine," Patty said. "I got this."
"Thanks and I mean it."
After her conversation with her friend, she could somehow breathe now. Confiding in your friend in times of trouble can really be a big help. Two days afterwards, Patty appeared at their doorstep with a big grin pasted on her face.
"Isn't it a nice afternoon, Maine?" She greeted as Maine stepped outside to the porch.
"I guess so." She sighed.
"This is the part where you get depressed because you still haven't found someone who would pose as your fake boyfriend, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it is."
"But I told you that I got this, didn't I?"
"Ah-huh, you didn't call me for the past two days." Maine rolled her eyes. "How do you expect me to sit still?"
"By trusting me?"
"Most of your plans go epic fail, Patty."
Patty grunted, "This time it won't."
"What makes you so sure?"
"Oh, it's just that my brother has a friend..." Her friend trailed off intentionally.
"This is the part where you stall for time to gauge my irritation until I demand you to spill it out before I skin you alive, isn't it?"
Much to her dismay her friend laughed, "Oh god, Maine. I'm proud of you. You're so learning a lot from me."
"I don't know if that's supposed to be a good thing or not." She muttered.
"Anyways, going back," Patty continued. "My lil' bro has a friend who he thinks will consider your predicament."
"He considers posing as a fake boyfriend?" Maine asked incredulously. "What is he, nuts?"
"No," Patty clucked her tongue. "Ryan told me his friend just needs it for some fun in his life."
