"Ummm...He's....", Nick mumbled something that I couldn't hear but I was in no mood top ask him to repeat himself. Everything seemed slightly hazy on the edges to me, the small bubble of calmness that had engulfed me slowly began to grow smaller and smaller until it was gone. My vision was getting better and my brain started working once again and I found myself wishing for the earlier peacefulness I had, disappointed that it had ended so fast. Sadly, life never gives you what you like and I needed to use my brain as much as I could.
This man was saying that he was my brother? But I'd remembered a much younger boy came to mind when I woke up yesterday. How could he be older than me? Was this one of Bryan's tricks? Was the little boy I remembered someone else. That wasn't likely as I had felt a connection to him. This man in front of me couldn't be trusted. Bryan seemed willing to go to any lengths to get that box.
Though I was feeling light-headed a minute ago, right now my instincts were strong. My gut told me this man was lying. His body was not relaxed as it should be when you're with someone you knew and I was sure a fight between two siblings would not result in such a change. I also caught a hint of discomfort on his face when I asked about Matt now that I thought about it. It was natural that he wouldn't disclose anything regarding Matt, after all he was on Bryan's side. Maybe I should play along and see where this goes, Bryan did want me alive so that was good I figured.
"I'm really sorry but what's your name? ", I asked him with a guilty look on my face, I presumed that any sister would act in a similar way if she didn't remember the name of her sibling.
"Oh! It's Nick", he responded slightly flustered.
I looked at the woman sitting beside me. She didn't seem harmful. If she was on their side, she'd probably be awake and not dozed off, but they could have been taking turns and she had the night shift so she was resting up for now.
"Who's the girl Sis?", Nick asked me suddenly. I could almost hear his discomfort when he said 'sis'. Like it was a foreign word rolling of his tongue.
So Nick did not know her. She was good. Matt would have probably asked her to come keep a watch on me, though it turned out to be a sleep sesh. I was almost about to smile when I stopped myself. I couldn't do anything suspicious in front of Nick, nor could I afford to be too open.
The woman must be something special given that Matt trusted her enough to watch over me. Nick shouldn't know that I didn't know who she was.
"She's a friend from work", I smiled at answered Nick. Matt said that we'd worked number of jobs and if this lady was smart she would go along with my cover story.
"Oh! What's her name?" Nick asked. Of course he'd want to gather all the information he could about me. Funnily enough, no names were coming into mind, I was saved when the woman's eyes fluttered open. I glanced at the watch, it was 7pm.
"Good evening!", I greeted her with the warmest smile I could muster, trying my best to make Nick believe what I'd just said.
