As I stood in the Great Hall along with the other first years, I looked around, taking in the view. There were so many people! A professor had told us to wait here while she grabbed something from somewhere.
Just then, my brother was standing in front of me. "Hey," There was a bright smile on his face.
I smiled warmly, suddenly feeling a little less nervous, knowing he was here with me. "Hi."
My brother gave me a quick hug before releasing me. "Are you nervous?"
I shrugged. "Just a little bit."
He smiled again. "Don't worry. You'll be fine."
A second later, there was a tall blonde-haired boy in front of me as well. "Is this your girlfriend, Potter?" There was a smirk on his face.
"Actually, no," my brother responded. "This is my sister, Bella."
The blonde's smirk faded. "Oh," was all he could manage to say. A slight smile crept across my face as I looked him over. He was kind of cute, actually. I bit my lip, trying to hide it.
The blonde stuck out his hand. "I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy."
But I didn't shake his hand. I only smiled and said, "Hi." Draco slowly drew back his hand, looking embarrassed.
"Bella doesn't like physical contact unless it's me," my brother told him.
Draco flashed me a warm smile before disappearing into the crowd of first years. I tried to find him, but it was no use. The smile was still on my face, and I could feel my cheeks slowly growing warm.
"Bella," my brother caught my attention. "You can't get close to him."
"What?" I responded, confused. "Why not?"
My brother only frowned. "He's not... good."
I gave him a look. "Besides the fact that he doesn't really seem to like you, he doesn't seem all that bad."
My brother only shook his head. But before he could speak, I heard my name being called out. "Isabella Potter."
The room grew completely silent. I stood there, suddenly shy and utterly nervous. My brother, however, decided I needed to move on up there. "Go," he said, smiling. I looked back at him, a nervous look flashing across my face. He only laughed and pushed me forward again. "Go, you'll be fine."
Slowly, I made my way up to where the lady that had a hat in her hand was. She motioned for me to sit upon the stool, and so I did. When she placed the hat on my head and it started speaking, I nearly ripped it off and ran back down to where my brother was sitting.
"Hm..." the hat started speaking. "Lots of talent... very courageous and brave... Gryffindor!" the hat yelled out.
A table off to my left started cheering, and I noticed my brother was also at that table. A bright smile crossed my face as I sat next to him. I looked back up to the large table, where I noticed a man with a long, white beard smiling at me warmly. He picked up his cup, gave me a wink, and took a sip of whatever was in it.
After all the first years had been sent to different tables by the hat, the lady stood up again. "Can I have your attention, please?"
I turned to my brother and asked, "Who's that?"
He followed my gaze and said, "That's Professor McGonagall. She'll be your Transfiguration teacher."
I nodded, then asked him another question. "Who's that man sitting next to her?"
My brother smiled once more. "That's Professor Dumbledore. He's the Headmaster of Hogwarts."
"Professor Dumbledore has some announcements," McGonagall said before sitting back down in her seat.
The Headmaster stood up and smiled at us warmly, his eyes meeting mine for the briefest second. "The Dark Forest is strictly off limits to everyone, and that includes First years."
Confused, I turned to my brother, who looked down at me. "What's the Dark Forest?"
"That's the area of trees outside to the left of the school."
"Also, the third floor is absolutely off limits. Do not go there unless you wish to die a most painful death," Dumbledore said.
I shot my brother a look filled with fear. He gave my hand a squeeze and said, "Don't worry, you'll have no reason to go there anyways."
I nodded, before looking back to Dumbledore. "Now," he continued, another warm smile on his face. "Let the feast begin!"
Food suddenly appeared on the tables and I was shocked and a bit surprised. My brother laughed at my reaction, before placing some food onto his plate. I, however, sat there, not taking anything, only biting my nails.
My brother turned to me a moment later. "You're really not going to eat?"
I shrugged. "I'm not hungry."
He sighed. "Again?" I shrugged again.
"Bella, you need to eat something."
"No, I'm not hungry," I responded, looking away.
"Harry," I heard a girl's voice call out my brother's name. "Who is that?"
"That's my sister, Bella," Harry responded.
A boy spoke up now. "You have a sister?"
I turned to them, a look of slight annoyance on my face. "Why is that surprising?"
The two red-heads just stared at me. Harry turned to me and gave me a warning look. Sighing, I looked away again. I noticed a man with black hair looking at me, and it sort of ticked me off that he was staring. So, I narrowed my eyes slightly and began to give him a dark look, when Harry nudged me. When I looked at him, he shook his head, giving me another warning look.
"Bella, will you please eat something?" Harry asked again.
"No, I'm not hungry," I responded, starting to get annoyed.
Harry sighed again. "Bella, you've barely eaten anything for two weeks."
"I'm just... not hungry," I told him, beginning to get even more annoyed.
He paused. "Did something happen at the Dursley's?" he asked, referring to our aunt and uncle's house we stayed at.
"No," I told him, looking away.
"Bella, what happened?" he asked, turning me so that I was facing him.
"Nothing happened. I just don't feel good."
Harry's grip tightened a bit. "It's just nerves. I'm sure eating something will help."
I shook my head. "No, it won't."
"How could you possibly know that?" Harry wondered, eyeing me.
I faced him fully now. "Because I've been nauseous for nearly two months. Eating doesn't help at all."
Harry's grip tightened even more. "What do you mean you've been nauseous for nearly two months? Bella, what in the world is going on? Are you sick?"
I ripped away from him. "Nothing. Just leave me alone."
"Fine," Harry said. "But Bella," he waited for me to look at him. "We will continue this conversation later."
