Turning 16, you would think I would be having a more 'age appropriate' party; but it seems my father wants me to be 'traditional'. When I say 'traditional' I mean a full out mask ball. I still don't know how my father talked me into this. I should be having hot babes at my side and a beer in my hand, but no I'm forced to do a stupid mask ball as if I'm a princess or something. If this ball doesn't get exciting I think I will spike the drinks to make things interesting.
I could here the laughter and talking down stairs already and I felt sick to my stomach. 'Really a stupid ball,' I recited in my mind. I sat on my bed in my suit and tie and felt the warm night breeze flow into the dark room. I liked the dark, always have. The moonlight illuminated my bedside table and slowly crept it's way further and further into the room. Such a big room, I wish I had a smaller one. As I felt myself drift off into never land a knock at my door disrupted my daydream of the lost boys. "Come in," I said still shoken by the loudness of the rude knock. My father, dressed also in a suit and tie, opened the big door to my bedroom and came in. "Why are you cooped up in here, there is a party down stairs in your honor," he said sternly but quietly, as if not to wake up the lights in the room. "A party? I thought that was Prince Charming's ball," I said with a bit of a chuckle. "You ungrateful child are going to go down stairs and have yourself a respectable party you hear me!" This time he didn't mind waking up the lights. "Yes sir," I answered. "Stand up my boy," he said as he jestered. I did as I was told and stood up. He came closer to me and padded my sholders. "Son," he paused and gave a bit of a worried look. As he came back to his scenes he spoke again,"....uh,.....have a good party," he stammered out. "Uh, ok," I said. He fave me a pat on the shoulders and left the room and closed the door.
'What was with him he seemed almost sad,' I thought. I stood up and walked out of my room into the dimly lit hallway. I looked into the mirror at the end of the hallway, sleeked my hair back, and walked twards the big marble staircase. A butler was walking up the stairs and said, "Master Ty everyone is waiting for your arrival to say the beginning words." I nodded and started going down the long marble steps. "Master Ty, I belive you are forgetting something," he says as he turns and holds up a yellow mask with green branches and a black crow painted on it. "How foolish of me," I say sarcastically with a bad British accent. With a small smirk he hands me the mask and walks away. 'So even the butler has a sense of humor,' I thought.
The entrance of the Mackintine mansion is very big and has two wings, the left that leads to the kichen and dinning room, and the right, that leads to the living room and my father's office. Ahead is the grand marble staircase, white as and Irishman's behind. There are two doors to the right and left of the staircase that both lead to the main hall, for parties, meetings, balls, and anything you can think of doing indoors. The main hall has a huge glass window that covers the back wall. This window has a glass door in the middle that leads to the gardens. The main hall also has two doors, one to the left and one to the right, that also leads to the dining room, kitchen, living room, etx. The mansion has a separate building for our butlers and servants that they can choose to live in if the please. The mansion also has three guest bedrooms, another office upstairs and two master bedrooms. Did I give you all the great details about how I'm filthy rich? Good, now back to the story.
I had made my last step when a knock came to the door. I looked back up the stairs to find the butler gone. I groaned and walked up to the two lage medieval style doors. 'Why do I have to get it?' I thought. I pulled the door open and I couldn't believe who was there.
Eric Deckvas stood just a hair bit taller then me with black hair, black eyes, and a grin that stretched from ear to ear. Dressed in a purple tux he looked like he belonged in the 90's. A bright orange bow tie hung loosely on his coller and the all too familiar smell of too much colone filled my nostrils. "Dude way too much colone," I said as I almost gaged. "That's the first thing you say to me after four years," he said still with his sarcastic smile on. "Come here," he said as he pulled me into a death clutch hug. "You've gotten stronger," I said as I struggled to breathe. He let go with a big sigh. "Ya and taller, I thought you would have been a but more, well, more considering you where always bigger than me,"he said. "So where are the booze and ladies?" He said rubbin his hands. "My father wanted a traditional party so there arnt any, just stupid masks," I replied. "Well then you wanna spike the drinks," he chuckled. "My thoughts exactly," I said.
We ended up talking more than we thought and forgot to close the door. After a bit we made our way to the main hall, or ball room as its used now. When we entered the room a butler greeted us with cheese and crackers, but we refused. The ball room wall filled with lots of people, mainly business freinds. Fancy gowns and tuxes littered the room. I could never imagine so many people in this room ever. We rarely had parties like this and when we did I was never allowed to go down stairs. Tables lined the walls filled with food and drinks and people where danceing to violinists and pianists in the corner. It was as if looking into the 1600s. I sat at the table in the front where my father and the Deckvas family was sitting.
The Deckvas family consisted of Arnold Deckvas, Sharon Deckvas, and there two children Eric, and Sofia.
Sofia was only five years old with beautiful curly brown hair."The progital son emerges from his den of darkness," Mr.Deckvas said. "Come, boy, sit and watch the lovely danceing," urged my father. Eric had already taken his seat next to his little sister and my seat lied between Mr.Deckvas and my father, lovely. I sat and watched as the couples flowed across the room matching with the rythm of the music, Everyone wearing a mask. It all made my head dizzy. I could hear Mr.Deckvas talk in the back of my mind about some sort of new investment he has made, but I was more focused on someone else.
Across the room lied a marvelous creature with such beauty even the coldest of hearts could be melted in her presence. Although she had a mask on she was, no doubt, one hell of a looker. Her long black hair curled at the edges. Her dress was a dark red with roses inbeded in the lineing. She had the curve of a craftsmen violin and the soft face of an angel.
"Ty are you alright?" The voice of my father cracked in my head at last and I turned to fave him. "Um, yeah I'm fine," I stumbled across my words. "Well, as I was saying...." he started again and I ignored again.
All I could think about was that girl. I turned to see if she was still there, but she had vanished. Why must such pretty things hide from the world. I looked and looked, my eyes jolting to every part of the room, but she was nowhere to be found. The garden.
I interrupted my father, "I'm sorry but I need to go," I quickly said and took off out the door into the warm night air. The bushes seemed to grow even more dense the more I searched. The garden was like a maze to me now, though I remember having treaded threw it over a million times. I felt lost without the sight of her how could I lose such a beautiful person. I went deeper and deeper into the maze. Then in the quiet of the night I heard an ear piercing scream.
